Where did these odds come from? You mean to tell me that OSU is a 9/2 favorite and Texas A&M is going for 13/2???????

replace OSU with OU and Texas A&M with Texas and you would be correct. OSU is 45/1 and A&M 150/1.

Odds look about right to me. I do think some of the lower odds teams really should be zero - there is no conceivable way many of them could win. Easy to see why UF is 2/1 since the big factors are defense (return all starters from an excellent squad) and an established QB. Also easy to see why OU is 2nd - defense has every sign of being good + Sam coming back. But I always answer "no" if someone asks if XX teams will win it all. I'll be right on every team but one and the odds are against every team - even the gators :)

So, they always claim that these odds are purely driven by the numbers of folks betting -- does that mean that somewhere, some nimrod actually bet money that Wake Forest would win the crystal football? Or Rutgers?

Or maybe I'm just badly out of touch. It isn't like I give a damn about any team other than ours.

Okay, okay, I admit, I *do* at least pay attention to game outcome for LSU. Living down here, it helps if I don't reply with a blank stare and puzzled expression when someone tries to fill an uncomfortable silence with meaningless Tiger football banter.

well vegas still has an idea of what it should be.....like when a spread comes out... like Ole Miss -7... or something.... they usually are right about it... give or take a few points.

so i guess i should say Vegas sets the line... say on Monday.... then people bet on which ever teams spread they like..... if a lot of people bet on Ole Miss -7... it will got to -7.5 or even up to 8

that's why whenever you bet on a favorite, do it as soon as the line comes out... b/c lines "usually" tend to go up... not down...

Over/under is a little more lucky.... a lot of people like to see points... so they bet on the over.... (this is where i make my big money, bet an hour before kickoff on unders)

Like the National title last year... everybody was predicting a huge game of points..... and look what happened...

Same thing for the superbowl when the Patriots and Giants played

If i bet 5 games, my goal is to win 3.....

if you can win 3 of 5 on games.. you can make some good money.

These bets are stupid; you would be much better off betting OU money line for all of their games. If they do win the championship, you would win way more money.

Tulsa had the Sooner Caravan yesterday, read here what Stoops had to say about the BCS losses and such (http://www.tulsaworld.com/sports/extra/article.aspx?subjectID=92&tab=ou&articleid=20090626_92_B1_Oklaho315543). I like his attitude. We keep making it to the game, we're going to kick down the door eventually. Hopefully SOON(er)

Alabama's is too low at 16/1, also Penn St. 40/1.

Those two schools have imo the easiest paths to make it to the game with undefeated records.

Penn St, especially. I expect them to probably win out. Will it be enough though if Big 12 and or Pac 10/SEC also have a team.

Rarely seems to happen, but Auburn sure got screwed that one year in 04. Not much more that they could have done except go 13-0.

I would put a 100 dollars on Penn St. Just because - damn.

When I think about what could have been in recent years... it gets sad.

You mention Penn State... if they win out last year and everything else stays the same, does OU get the Nat'l Title nod or Florida (no Texaz, you do NOT get the nod). Whichever team Penn State faces (much like whichever SEC team got to face Ohio State in previous years) is already erecting the trophy case for a new crystal football.

Better yet, what if (and I really do despite 'what if's' cuz they're annoying, but just cuz it's Monday and all...) Texaz Tech wins out and goes to the title game against Penn State?

These what if's get even funnier the year before, when people were talking about South Florida facing Boston College for the title before all the losing started.

The what if's the year before? Well, funny thing happened when USC lost to UCLA :D:D:D:D

The cycle continues... but it's offseason, so that might make an interesting topic sometime.

I have to think we were the BCS #1 and Florida Texas are left out. Now that the final coaches poll is blind. We will never have any logic to how this shiate will work. You can only win all your games and hope...

I have to think we were the BCS #1 and Florida ***Texas*** are left out. Now that the final coaches poll is blind. We will never have any logic to how this shiate will work. You can only win all your games and hope...

Remember the reason why that final poll was made public in the first place?

USC: We beat you Bears! We get to go to the championship now!
OU: Yeah, us too. Woot.
Cal: Awwww... but that's our only loss! SURELY others will see it our way!
Utah: We break you, BCS! Now bow before our mid-major greatness!
Auburn: We are whining right now in addition to winning... ho hum.
Texaz: We only lost to Oklahoma! PLEASE! PLEASE let us in the BCS! We promise we'll be good! We promise we're a nice and friendly team that brings boatloads of fans! Our players so readily deserve this honor! Please please please please PLEEEEEEEASE!

(the next day)

BCS: Ok, USC and OU are in the title game. Auburn, we know you're undefeated, but you're out.
Auburn: Aw, shucks.
BCS: Utah, we have to let you in because of our rules.
Utah: Yay!
BCS: And that leaves Cal and Texaz for the last at-large bid... wow, it appears the coaches poll has quite a few voters bedowngradin' Cal and upgrading Texaz...
Cal: Huh?!
BCS: So that means Texaz, you're going to the Rose Bowl to face Michigan by default.
Rose Bowl: WHAT?! And sh!t on our tradition?! Again?!
Texaz: De-fault! De-fault!
Cal: NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Unfair! SO UNFAIR! Don't the rest of you think that this is unfair.
Auburn: (yawn) Yup, so unfair.
Utah: Pitt only sold 83 tix of its Fiesta Bowl allotment?!
Cal: We're crying foul on the Coaches Poll and BCS!

...and the rest is history... which is now forgotten, because they're reverting back.

We'll never know, but my money would have been on a Penn State/Florida matchup had PSU won out. OU finished BCS #1, but mostly due to computers and the fact it was pretty much a done deal with no behind the scenes intrigue. If PSU finished #1, OU would have been punished by horn sympathizers and the fact we played Mizzou and UF got to play Bama.

Vegas covers their bets. If you look at the lines for the individual games Texas is -3 over OU, and Texas and Florida are the only teams to be the favorite in all their games.

Picking who will win the National Championship in July is like picking a spouse when you're 17--it's just way to early. Even at 25 it can be a crap shoot.

But your odds are a lot better at 25 than at 17.
