I tend to agree completely, the only exceptions I see is if Tejada somehow gets to 400 hrs or if Rolen gets to 350 or so

Right now i would say Chipper and Delgado, with Berkman still needing a few more years but he's on the right path; Nomar and Jones have been horrible for several years now and Helton could be hurt by the Coors Field factor

yah i was going off of paths too....

the only think that hurts Tejada is all the recent crap going on... and he was on the Mitchell list too...

and i don't see Tejada getting to 400

Sweet fancy Moses! Scott Rolen? That's a stretch even for a die-hard Cardinal fan like yourself.

I think Chipper gets in if he puts up three or four more good years. Playing his entire career in Atlanta will also be a bonus for him. Curmudgeonly sportswriters smile on loyalty to a team.

Well I initially said guys who might be borderline when they retire, If Rolen could somehow retire with all those gold gloves, 2000 hits, and 350hrs it would be a legit possibility. Now him putting up those numbers I doubt

off that list?

Chipper Jones has the best shot.

rolen won't get in because he'll undoubtedly miss a lot of time with injuries again. He'll be one of those "what could have been" types.

yah Chipper is a lock for sure... maybe not first ballot .... just depends when he retires and who is on it... need a 70% vote i think.

Todd Helton has been one of the most consistent hitters of all time. IMO the only active player that is a better pure hitter than him is Ichiro, with Michael Young coming in 3rd. I would say off that list Helton and Berkman have the best shot. And I would add Chase Utley, although Im not sure if he has played 10 years or not.

I think I can say for certain that Randy Johnson is a lock now.

Anybody else, I'm not so sure on.

This is funny...You think Helton and Michael Young are better pure hitters than Pujols, laughable

Scott D

ahh but you didn't argue Ichiro!

Collier11
6/22/2009, 12:57 PM
I probably would just cus Pujols has a higher career avg than all of those and way more HRs

Scott D

but you didn't!

I was thinking about the true definition of a pure hitter, upon further review Pujols is #1...and the fact that he put Helton and Young in the top 3 is laughable

Anyone that's watched Michael Young and the Rangers lately wouldn't even put Young in the top half of MLB. ;) :P :D

In career avg. for active players, Pujols is 1 with a .334, Ichiro is second with a .332, and Helton is 3rd with a .322. Michael Young is 17th with a .301, so maybe i was off on that one simply because im a rangers fan and when he is on, he looks like the best guy to get a hit in the league. But Helton being in the top 3 isnt laughable.

if he keeps with his steady improvement, Joe Mauer is going to be high on that list very very soon.

who me Heltons splits for hitting in Denver vs on the road, he isnt the best pure hitter. I would imagine they are big time diff
