WTF happened to this plane?

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-brazil-crash18-2009jun18,0,7456334.story

They seem to be leaning towards it breaking up in mid-air?

Any hypothesis on how this happened?

I've read some stuff about speed sensor problems, leading the pilot to over speed the a/c.

Wouldn't that just make the passengers colder than usual?

Apparently the blow-up auto pilot worked to perfection.

Possibly that and since this bird is fly by wire, there could have been computerized adjustments that didn't jive with flight stability due to inaccurate information. Airbus had put out a message regarding the speed sensors and they were supposed to be replaced. I don't know if it was an immediate thing and AF didn't do it or if it was on an as scheduled type basis.

Then also, there were known islamic terrorists on the flight. They haven't ruled out a bomb, but then they don't think it is likely.

I haven't followed this story since the first day but I think it's fairly obvious that it broke up in mid air. As to why it broke up... I haven't followed the story and we're not likely to have an official conclusion for quite some time. These airplane crash investigations tend to go on so long that most people forget about them by the time the final report is given.

This just scares the hell out of me.

There was an MSNBC story earlier today about the same thing but more details. I can't find it now. The so-called experts were saying that when a plane breaks up in the air (without the firey explosion), that the passengers would die instantly like hitting a brick wall of the jet stream. They wouldn't just fall to their deaths and be concious of that on the way down. On one hand, that seems better than the terrifying few seconds of plummeting plane and sure death or being a burning piece of meat plummeting down.

On the other hand, the fact that a plane can be traveling too fast into a turbulent weather is not giving me much confidence in that large flying bus.

And, I fly back to the US in about a week.

Why is everybody surprised that they are finding nude bodies? HELLO! This is Air France flying out of Brazil! I think it would be against the law to wear clothes on that plane.

Mix 1 part Xanax with 2 parts Bloody Mary. You'll be fine.

Quit being scared... you're much more likely to die from something else you do.

Seeing as this (http://origin2.foxnews.com/images/464323/1_61_111208_flight_5873.jpg) (American Airlines 587, back in 2001) was also an Airbus, I wonder if something similar happened to 447. The images look similar, anyway.

IMO, it's the result of another POS manufacturing job by Airbus.
