View Full Version : Question about countries trying to develope nuclear weapons

Obviously, no American wants countries such as North Korea, Iran, and the like to have these types of weapons. My question is, who are we to tell other countries not to develop these weapons? We have have them and are the only the only country to this point to actually use them against another country. I don't understand how we can rightfully tell (sanction) other countries not to do something that we do. I realize this question will seem ridiculous to most, but I it's an honest question that I have.

We can't, or won't, defend our own borders even. We'll be heading the way of the once mighty Roman Empire. How long that takes is the question. I think we'll be OK for the rest of my lifetime, so no fears here. ;)

The pubs haven't been any better at protecting the borders. As a country we've lost our brassies, when it comes to doing that.

Because both Iran and North Korea signed the NNPT saying they wouldn't. Now NK has since backed out of it.

Germany and Japan were in the same position we are in now. They had a vested interests in keeping us from acquiring nuclear weaponry before they did.

They failed.

Germany actually got lucky the Russians raced us to Berlin. Otherwise, they would have possibly gotten nuked as well. (I'm sure there are historians that would say no because of our historical Euro-ties as well as our "borrowed" German scientists.)

Some people believe the Dresden firebombings (and other cities) were actually worse.

So, our moral and ethical argument as to "who are we to tell another...?" is to prevent the opposite of what happened to close out WWII.

Our current focus is to pay very careful attention to the development of delivery systems. It may actually be a given that someone who shouldn't will get a nuke. So we are quite touchy about advanced Scuddery and Kim's testing flare-ups.

Interesting that, like WWII, we are fortunate to be straddled by two significant puddles.
