I am kind of surprised that the theme/water parks are so far away from the university.

If they had that in, like, Moore, or south OKC, they would get a lot more of the college crowd out.

However, because of recent revelations about a city triathlon, I would have to say that the top thing OKC should have is a clean river :D

Doesn't that airline WiFi cost an arm and a leg?

$12.95 a flight. Certainly not worth it on a TUL - DFW flight, but on the longer ones I'm sure it will be.

But I will qualify my purchase by telling you I sat on the tarmac in Tulsa for two hours waiting for storms to pass out of Dallas. Then once I got to Dallas I had to walk from terminal D to terminal A (I don't know how far that is, but it's a long ****ing way) because they had shut down the skylink due to lightning. Then I get on my plane only to sit for two more hours due to more storms. This day has not been great.

Skyline chili? Are you ****ing kidding me? Puke on a plate doesn't come close to describing how nasty that crap is.

It may come as a surprise to many, but one of my gigs is motivational speaking. Anyhow, I was doing some presentations in Cincinnati a couple years ago. Whenever you do these deals the locals always present you with a "gift basket." The one I got in Cincinnati had these cans of Skyline chili. They went on and on about how great that **** was.

So, when I get home I'm all excited about opening up a can. I grill some dogs, and open this can of Alpo looking slime. I never let looks stop me from trying something, so I heat it up, and pour a bunch of it over my dogs. I take one bite and had to spit it out. I thought it was a prank or something. Nothing that nasty could be praised by so many.

I call the dudes in Cincy and go "wtf was in that can called Skyline chili?" They go "wasn't it great!! It's a Cincy dynasty and everybody around the world loves it." I go "that was the nastiest **** I've ever stuck in my mouth. Ever."

Hard Rock Cafe? Overhyped, overpriced POS.

The one here is pretty cool, but I'm biased..They give my job lots of cash!

Sadly, the one in Asstin has some really cool stuff.

And one in Florida...can't remember which town...is cool if you're a Savatage fan.

The secret is to be pretty buzzed when you arrive, look at all the ****, and then hit the nearest cheaper bar!

Of course here in Vegas you're usually headed for the Joint to catch a kickass show.

On a side note there's at least one Cherokee Casino that's affiliated with Hard Rock...not sure of the location, but Warwick Stone, the Curator of the collection here, just ordered a bunch of display signs for a crapload of memorabilia and had us ship it to blahblahblah Cherokee Nation Oklahoma. They'll be giving us more money in a few days when they realize that Warwick spelled Sheryl Crow "Cheryl Crow". I was a dickhead and didn't call and correct him!

The cool thing about doing so much work for them is they frequently present assorted awards to the big names in music so my work is in the collections of a lot of greta musicians as well as some dumbazz hacks that shouldn't have ever been famous.

I've noticed them disappearing all over the place over the last 15 years or so. They don't seem able to survive in high competition areas, and this is definitely high competition -- we have a Braum's basically everywhere down here.

EDIT: And by "high competition", I mean "direct competition." Braum's is basically the same thing as Dairy Queen -- except, IMO, about ten times better. If you've ever seen the difference between a Braum's Banana Split and a Dairy Queen Banana Split in person, you know what I'm talking about.

Same story in Kowloon.

Never been to that one. Hard Rock - OKC may not be successful, but I still like the idea.

The Hard Rock in Bangkok is pretty cool. You don't go there for the over-priced food. You go there for the Filipino band and rich, hawt chicks or buy the souvenirs with Hard Rock Cafe - Bangkok. The souvenirs crap saved my *** on Christmas shopping several times.

Just today as I was walking through the Siam skytrain station, I overhead three American chicks asking a very surprised Thai woman for directions. I almost turned around and told them that I was just heading there for the margaritas.

When I was a rich, young stockbroker, I once rented an entire floor of Hard Rock for a party. I started doing tequila shots with my female analysts and it's a pity I don't remember much beyond that. Somehow, I think I'll never top that because we were pretty much fearless ****z.

So on my wish list for OKC would be more high quality Asian restaurants. More importantly, a farmers market with a wide variety of vegetables and produce, including Asian vegetables, so the restaurants can offer fresh and crisp food, not frozen and microwaved or fried.

Mexican food in Oklahoma is light years ahead of what we had 20+ years ago when I left the US. The recent thread about chilies makes me think that we Okies are appreciating more of that fresh and less of that franchise food.

Braum's and Sonic ran those *Texas* yahoos pretty much out of the stste. There is really good one in Clinton.
Dairy Queen started in Kankakee, Illinois, is based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota and is wholly owned by Berkshire Hathaway/Warren Buffett out of Omaha, Nebraska. They are pretty much a small town Texas institution but not Texas based. Sonic is starting to give them a run for their money.

Poor franchisees have plagued the OKC area DQ stores throughout their history.

I tell you what would blow my mind if I ever saw it come to Oklahoma, much less Oklahoma City......

and for all you non left-or-right-coasties who don't have a clue about these places, all I can say is reserve your judgement until you've been to one of them. They are THAT cool!

What we need are:

1. A Wegman's grocery store

2. A Claim Jumper restaurant

If you live in New York, or the upper east coast, you know all about Wegman's. They are the most awesome grocery store I have ever seen in my life and they put Whole Foods market to shame for the total grocery shopping experience. The absolute ultimate, I tell ya!

Now, when it comes to eating out at a chain restaurant, I GUARANTEE you nothing out there tops the Claim Jumper for quality, selection and experience. All you gotta do is go to South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA and try theirs for a first experience. They are the best and most impressive chain experience I have ever had, period! The closest places to this I can think of are Fogo de Chao, Pappadeaux, Famous Dave's BBQ and The Fish Market. There's only about 30 of them in the southwestern U.S. and I desperately wish they had one here.

OK, jumping down from my soapbox.............

mdklatt mentioned Carrabba's in an earlier post. It pissed me off that it closed down earlier this year off Memorial and May. I had two friends work there and apparently they never reached their yearly goal as far as they wanted to make and the fact they were a bit far from Quail Springs Mall. Well hell, there are other restaurants on that side that are doing just as good and to see Olive Garden and Johnny Carino's still up pisses me off. Carrabba's made everything fresh daily....damn it was good.

And no I am not wealthy and have a liking for expensive stores. Just saying, get some awesome businesses here that you see in bigger cities.

But just to reiterate, Braum's is crap!

Truth of the matter is, there is no such thing as 6 point beer. Not from Bud, Miller or Coors.

Bud, Miller and Coors Light come in at about 4.2%

Original Coors, Budweiser and Miller High Life all come in right around or right under 5%.

Poor franchisees have plagued the OKC area DQ stores throughout their history.I had no idea where DQ originated,my Texas yahoo comment was based largely on commercials out of Texas that constantly refer to Texas DQ or DQ of Te5xas.Theseccommercials I guess formed my perception(or misconception) that DQ was Texas based.I have seen Whataburger commercials that are advertised the same way (i.e. )Texas Whataburger.

I believe the Texas DQ's function quasi-independently from the rest of the nation's DQ's, and they have a different food menu and what not than everybody else.

That is partially true, they are still tied to Minneapolis and all the franchise agreements still come out of there but the Texas stores do have their own marketing and menu (Texas Dairy Queen (http://www.dqtexas.com/indexcont.htm)) independent of the mothership.

Whataburger is Texas based, started in 1950 in Corpus Christi and was still based there until last year when when they moved the HQ to San Antonio.

Yeah, the Sam Adams Utopias. I've been wanting to try one for a few years now. They're legal to buy in Oklahoma (apparently) and will be back on sale later this year. The question is whether or not any liquor stores here in OKC will sell them. Of course, they're also like $100 for a 24-oz.

I beleive they start around $200. Secondary market on those bottles is about $300 - $500.

Sam Adams gives bottles to it's highest volume retailers. From what I remember hearing only about half a dozen bottles make it to the entire state.

I love In-N-Out myself. Whataburger's some good stuff too but we don't have them here.

Here the only chains that are truly good are In-N-Out or Fatburger. Only thing I don't like about In-N-Out is the weird bible quotes on the bottom of the packaging. I do like the concept of real potatoes and meat though.

When I want a truly good burger though there are a ton of great burgers at assorted casinos all over town.
No trip to Vegas or the left coast is complete for me until I've had at least one meal at In-N-Out. I like Braum's pretty well and am glad to have the fresh milk, produce, and other products but their burgers and fries are nowhere near the quality of INO. It's fun to watch a real potato turn into MY french fries. :)

I like the first two or three fries I have, then it seems like I'm eating straight Crisco or something...toss.

Louie's has some tasty fries.

Everytime I see Braum's Hot Fudge from a jar, I think of what could possibly come off of Chastity Bono...or perhaps they are one in the same.

Braum's Milk though is the best!!!!
