I'm watching Friday's show now. The folks on that show are freakin' devoted, crazy, and fearless people.

I watched it last night too....All that "If I die saving the whales, then I die" talk is a little much for me

As a Sailor, I loathe their Captain to the point of beginning to cheer for the Japanese. He has absolutely no leadership skills and primarily sits in his stateroom and surf's porn...I mean fundraises.

The organization's rhetoric is riddled with lies and exaggerations and ruin what I believe is otherwise a noble endeavor.

Even Greenpeace condemns their m.o.

That's like Mack saying VY has an attitude problem.

I'd never heard of it...watched a few YouTube clips. Looks like religion by another name.

From what I've seen, its a boat full of people that probably aint got a lot going for them in the real world..A couple of them may be successful people, but I get the feeling from a couple of them they are probably close to homeless, and its a boat with free room and board, as well as food.

The 1st mate, I think his last name is Brown, to me is a total spazz....I wouldn't let that guy drive my bass boat, much less a ship

Dude made a comment that made me cringe last night...

This guy is supposed to be the Navigator, yet he said he would rather have an old fisherman with him to help him navigate than the new "kids", "...with all their fancy gadgets."

He also said, "...used to navigate by the stars. When compasses were invented, we forgot how to do that."

What an idiot.

I learned (and taught) how to navigate with the stars and I was responsible for a multi-billion dollar submarine! (that makes sense, I know. :))

Technical alert:
When navigating near the poles, compasses are practically worthless. When navigating near the poles, cloud cover makes celestial navigation practically impossible.

Use the gadgets, dumbazz.

a old fisherman took me to target a while back. I turned on my garmin while sitting in a parking lot and found the new one on Robinson.

The 1st Mate is definitely an odd duck . . .

My question is about the legality of whale hunting and where the Japanese are doing the hunting. If it is in international waters those freaks from the Steve Irwin (I hope he didn't endorse their activities before he died) deserve everything they get for interfering in the hunt.

Can you imagine what would happen if they did that crap on The Deadliest Catch? Sid and the guys would take care of 'em. :)

That is part of the conflict with their statements, Bob. They claim that the area they are in around Antarctica is a protected area for the whales and the Japanese are violating Australian law. All of this outside of 12 miles from land...international waters.

They also say the hunting of these whales is illegal.

Yet, in the same breath, they brag about not letting the whalers reach their quota. If they have a quota (like Sig and the boys in D Catch), then is it legal?

They also claim to have NEVER broken a law.
They also claim to have NEVER injured another person.

You watch the show you see lots of NEVERs being compromised.

The commercials for the show haven't motivated me to watch. What if someone on either side is killed? The whales sure do eat a lot of baitfish that could go to feeding game fish! I guess a little whaling isn't so bad. If only there was more "sealing" and "sea lioning"!

Yeh I'm ready for "Baby Seal Wars" to debut.Crack'em on the Head with a Bat. :DSome govt. program to "thin the herd" a little would be good use for some of the stimulus pork, for the sport and commercial fishermen of coastal states. Flippered bastages are eating untold tons of fish from Washington State to Maine.

In the only episode I watched from last season they sent 3 people out at dusk in a zodiac to do a long hit and run on a japanese whaler. They lost contact with them for hours and had no clue where they were located. Several of the folks on the Steve Irwin thought their folks were lost at see. They eventually contacted them and made their way back to the boat.

Ironically, this all occurred during their trip to meet another vessel to pick up two other shipmates who had actually boarded a japanese vessel and were detained. The Australian and Japanese governments had to negotiate their release.

Looks to me like the Berkeley tree sitter wackos got a boat and a new cause. These are the same kind of folks who like to hide metal spikes in trees so that logger's chain saws will strike them and hurt the logger. Other tricks of their trade include sabotaging road work equipment and even farming operations they consider not eco-friendly. The ends justify the means.
