Norman McNabb, co-captain of Oklahoma's 1950 national championship team, died Wednesday at age 85. McNabb was part of the 1946 recruiting class that helped Jim Tatum and Bud Wilkinson turn the Sooner football program into a national power. He earned All-Big Seven honors as a guard his senior season when the Sooners went 10-0 during the regular season to earn the school's first team national title.

in my youth I was good friends with one of his sons in Norman, school mate. To Bruce and the rest of the McNabb family, may peace be with you at this difficult time.

When I was a kid Norman McNabb had a sporting goods store on main street just a half block west of Flood st. He had one of those cages in the back of the store that had a trap door on it that could be sprung and racoon tail would fly out and hit the chest of a person he had trying to identify the "animal" in the cage. He got several of the OU football players with that gag and it was so funny how those big old boys would jump and holler and dance around trying to get the heck out of the way. A great laugh and fun memories of a sooner for life.
