Watch what happens about 1:20. I was sitting very near where the camera operator was recording this...it was pretty fun to watch.

Thanks Boomer,

Since I live in Norman, I quickly noticed the lack of Ugg boots and boys wearing white-framed sunglasses.

Kind of nice...

One thing I heard constantly was how horribly hot it was (82 deg). I kept thinking they should try and sit in Sec 31 on a September day game...

Anyway, there was a million cows all around the venue and a winery up against the east fence. Just inside the main gate on the east side was a little pond with a fountain to keep the water aerated and the algae down...

You guessed it.

Swimmers.

Three stages.

Main

Yeti

Wookie

I saw The Submarines at Yeti and Of Montreal at Wookie.

Hard to choose sometimes what to see when bands play at the same time.

Sadly, I had the epic Swine/EColi/Syphillis/Bird flu when Of Montreal was here in Norman last month, headlining the Norman Music Festival. I almost dragged my feverish azz to see them but collapsed in futile misery.

They were awesome.

It's like a whole sub-culture of American society that I barely knew existed.

SicEm...rent the movie, "Woodstock". Not that much has changed.

Well, 'cept for the cell phone cameras, $11.00 beers and much, much, much better quality pot.

Green Man!

I got my Green Man high five. Actually, a few of them.

All the chicks would yell, "GREEN MAN!!" and he would come over.

Not a lot of inhibition witnessed last weekend.

Seriously, I met several people there and have several here that want to go next year. I'd love to put together a Sasquatch posse. (maybe call it "cadre" instead)

Also, ACL Festival's Friday lineup has me going down there in October...

Great pics. It looks a lot like some of the places I've hunted in my time.

That being said, I almost felt nauseous looking at those pics. I cannot tell you how much I would NOT like being at that deal. My love for wallowing around in a sea of wasted folks getting their rock on is dead. D-E-D dead.

I think the last big outdoor "festival" I went to was at the Pima County Fairgrounds in Arizona. Santana was the headliner, and I don't remember all the other bands. Anyhow, a bunch of Hell's Angels got into it with a bunch of Banditos while all the wasted hippy chicks (hauntingly similar to the ones in your pics) were all going "dudes, give peace a chance" while one dude is smashing some other dude's face in with a motorcycle chain. Good times...

Anyhow, small clubs with blues artists are my thing. That's about as big as I ever wanna get anymore.

I can totally relate Dean. I love blues clubs now too.

However, the thing I am enjoying about these festivals is how the younger crowd has a great time and for the most part are happy and peaceful. Plus, I was there with my 20yo daughter and it blew her away.

Since I'm their Dad's age...I pretty much get deferred to...even though that isn't my intention.

There certainly was more space than on my submarine.

Oh, 'cept for this really fun non-Woodstocklike performance (I loved it!)

"GirlTalk" is a DJ named Greg Gillis (that's him in the black tank top on the big screen) who puts these long strings of mixes together with some great classic rock sampled into the performance. I'd never seen a DJ as a stage act, and this was actually pretty cool...those kids had some serious good times.

God bless you brother. I've taken my boys to a few Bluesfests, and that was fun. The best part (to me at least) was seeing kids who only listened to rap and crap get turned on to the blues and classic rock. They still like some of the "older rap" (how stupid does that sound?), but they all dig on rock, and especially the blues.

I have to honestly say I give Guitar Hero the credit for the R&R thing. All the years of hearing nothing but "thump thump muh****a muh****a, bitch, ho, pop a cap in yo ***" coming from their bedrooms and all of a sudden I hear "Generals gathered in their masses.....just like witches at black masses" coming from upstairs. Brought a tear to my eye I tell you.

Half of my blues CDs are gone cause my boys stole them. That touches me deeply.

Then I bet you could have suffered through this last year at ACL:

I was just off of stage left. Best performance I saw last year.
