Former OU player arrested on DUI charge

Transcript Staff

Former University of Oklahoma football player Brandon William Walker was arrested Sunday morning in Norman on alcohol related charges.

According to the Norman Police Department daily activity report, police arrested Walker, 23, of Norman, at 1:59 a.m. Sunday at 211 W. Boyd.

Police said Walker was transported to the Cleveland County Detention Center and booked for driving under the influence.

Walker was a three-year starter on OU's offensive line. He was an all-Big 12 second-team selection at guard in 2007 and a honorable mention pick this past season as season.

Walker wasn't selected in the NFL draft last month, but he did sign a rookie free-agent contract with the Houston Texans.

He was released by the Texans after the DUI incident. It's being reported by the Oklahoman that he was arrested again yesterday on domestic battery charges - something about his girlfriend and a child they had together.

Sad,

According to wikipedia and the league minimum is somewhere around $285,000, so Walker, you are dumb as sh!t!

Player contracts are not guaranteed; teams are only required to pay on the contract as long as the player remains a member of the team. If the player is cut, or quits, for any reason, the balance of the contract is voided and the player receives no further compensation

He was signed as an undrafted free agent... I'm not sure if those type of signings get any signing bonus, so it's possible that he's received nothing from the Texans, as most NFL salaries are split either (a) 17 ways over the NFL 17-week season (16 games plus a bye week) or (b) monthly over the year, which few players choose to do (get money now, or later? hmmmm)

Since he was an undrafted free agent, I'm sure he signed for the minimum, so even if he did receive anything, it would have not been more than a few K's. He was dropped pretty quickly. :(

They often do as far as I understand but they typicall arent much. I think Hybl got around a $25,000 bonus when he was signed out of college
