Who will get to draft Blake Griffin? Partake in the poll - odds of getting Blake Griffin next to the team. Bragging rights to the winner!

I would love for the Thunder to get Blake and it seems like it has set up for hometown teams in the past. I know last year Chicago had the 9th best shot at getting #1 and the took hometown product Derrick Rose, so maybe it will work for OKC.

I think it is pretty much a sure-thing that Blake will end up at one of these teams... so here are the teams I do NOT want him to go to:
Clippers (where talent goes to die), T'Wolves (small market wasteland), Grizzlies (no fan support), Nets (recent change in ownership for the worse), Bobcats (phail franchise is phail).

Other than OKC, the places I think Blake would do well is Sacramento (passionate owners that will pimp him greatly to fans), New York (they are just dying for something to cheer up there in MSG), Pacers (Indy loves their bball, and for ties to a certain other No. 23) and Suns (Again, No. 23 ties)

not really deserving of bragging rights guessing the outcome of a completely random thing

Ok then... just pick a team and see what happens.

Blake will be headed to The Kings and will share Wayman's old number once again in Sac-Town.

An interesting stat I saw today on ESPN, FWIW: in the entire history of the lottery (started in '85 w/ Ewing, IIRC, w/ the weighted system coming into effect 4-5 years later), the team with the best chance of getting the top pick has done so only 4 times.

Go Suns!

badger
5/19/2009, 06:40 PM
An hour away... I'm excited! I'm nervous... I'm happy! I'm impatient... GO BLAKE! :D

I will be happy for him regardless, but I am extremely hopeful that he will go to a franchise with a solid fanbase and a good track record for developing young talent.

There couldn't be a better year for OKC to be able to trade up for Blake Griffin. They have two 1st round picks this year and I think two or maybe even 3 next year. They could pull it off.

They need players and not another PF. Lets give em our two first round and the maybe even the late first round next year if need be for the rights to Blake.

Congrats to bornandbred for calling "Clippers" before the lottery balls fell.

A hearty "haha" to the following posters who participated in the poll after the results were in, in an attempt to look really funny... or smart:

Legit question cause I know jack about the NBA: Is there any realistic way for the Thunder to trade up?

The Clippers screwed up last time they won the lottery. This could work one of two ways...

a) Sick of losing and sick of speculation on how the Clippers will blow another high pick, LAC trades their top pick for rising/current stars and/or more draft picks to build a solid foundation for future success.

b) Determined to get over the stigma of being an absolute and total failure of participating in 20 of the 25 draft lotteries (isn't that the stat they gave last night? Oy!), the Clippers keep their pick and draft the guy they think will take them to the next level and not even entertain trade offers.

Sorry, but I think it's more toward (b) than (a), because there's a lot of pride involved at this profession level and people don't like being labeled failures, losers or lottery-bound year in and year out and so they will look for the immediate fix once again... and in the process, end up being labeled failures, losers and lottery-bound once again

So, basically Clippers = Raiders?

badger
5/20/2009, 08:57 AM
So, basically Clippers = Raiders?

I think that's giving the Clips too much credit... after all, the Raiders have been to the Super Bowl recently (37 in 2003) and the Clips have not been to a Finals since... um... have they ever been?

NormanPride
5/20/2009, 09:12 AM
Hell, they've only made the playoffs seven times since their inception. They are the Detroit Lions of basketball. Blake is doomed if he stays there.

All this hate! The Clippers quest for the O'Brien Trophy starts in November! This is clearly the best thing to happen to the Clippers ever, other than their 2006 West Semifinal loss to the Suns in 7 games (making it that far).

Oh, and it's official, the Clippers will choose Griffdawg!

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-nba-lottery20-2009may20,0,5679790.story

Danny Manning, Michael Olowokandi . . . and now Blake Griffin.

The Clippers have twice had the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft, and will get it again for a third time, having won the league's draft lottery Tuesday night at Secaucus, N.J.

"Clearly, we're taking Blake Griffin," Clippers General Manager and Coach Mike Dunleavy said in a telephone interview from Barcelona, Spain.

"This guy is the No. 1 pick. We're extremely excited. He's the guy."

If he wouldn't look like a jerk for it he could pull an Eli Manning and refuse to sign with them.

Gawww... how dare the NBA get Oklahoma's hopes up by having us land in the top 3 :(

I know Green is a proven NBA player, but do we trade him and some picks to get Griffin?

Collier11
5/20/2009, 10:51 AM
No, Trading Griffin and multiple picks for Green still leaves us with needs to be a playoff team which we cant address in the draft. Unless we have a shooter lined up that we can sign. Although, we are due to have to pay Green and Durant soon so who knows

soonerfan28
5/20/2009, 12:11 PM
Next years draft will be better then this one anyway, so we'll probably keep our multiple picks for next year and use them.

HOW THE HELL IS DUNLEAVY STILL EMPLOYED?!? I thought they would fire him for sure after this last season ended with a 30+ point home loss to the Thunder.

As a Bucks fan (not die-hard, because NP is trying to convert me to the Spurs), I can say without a doubt that Mike Dunleavy is not a good coach and that he is only as good as the talent that surround him... he does not overachieve, he regularly underachieves, but never just "achieves" anything.

However, regardless of how I feel about the Clippers (suck! THEY SUCK! SUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK!), I know that whoever drafts and signs Blake Griffin will be making a good decision and getting a great player... and better yet, a good person. Blake was among the thousands who attended the public Tisdale funeral in Tulsa today. Considering that the draft lottery was a few days ago and the Clippers are talking him up, it must have been no small feat to make it back for this important event.
