The odds are high Hubble's life gets extended along with the shuttle's. There is talk of a possible extra 1 or 2 flights out of shuttle to service Hubble alone. I personally think the current admin will say in order to save cost, we extend shuttle life another 3-4 years. But, who knows. Hubble was cool and is a nice figure piece for NASA.

while I understand the Danger of the shuttle and its age
why cant they Refurbish em Or hell build new ones ?

It's a cost issue. First, it's nearly fully reusable, that adds cost initially but also in servicing between flights. Second, you can put a capsule on top of a rocket and launch it much MUCH cheaper. The capsule returns and can be reusable, but the rest burns up on reentry. I believe this how the Russians do it with they Soyuz. Lastly, due to the time it takes the Shuttle to be serviced combined with the cost of launch, the frequency is low. I forget what it was designed for, but I think we're going at a rate of about 40% of what they had initially planned. As with most things, the more you do it, the cheaper it is, so our cost remains high.

That helps thanks
But it can do so much more, It seems a shame to let em go to museums
Plus Im so old Im tired of seeing NEW things become obsolete

If it makes you feel better, we're going back towards Apollo technology. So, really, new got old, but is new again.

Landing in just about 1 hour, that would be 11:37 Yankee time.

I just don't know about those re-entry heat shield tiles. Ima little nervous every time we send that bird up.

Why don't they build the entire hull of the shuttle outta that tile material????

Why don't they build it out of the same plastic they package stuff in at the stores? Ya ever try to get into that stuff, it's indestructible. :D

Now that's an idea they need to run with!

We used to call that stuff clamshell packaging. I don't think you can burn through that stuff. It would definitely withstand the heat of re-entry.

I think it could fly through the sun!

Prolly could. They may have to get some new window shades, but that'd be a hell of a ride.
