Combine one seasons offense with one seasons defense, which would you take?

I would go 2008 offense with 2001 defense

Maybe 2000's defense so we can include "You've got my boy's trophy?"

I might go w/ the 2004 offense, but it would be close w/2008 and it would be the 2000 defense.

Not an easy call on either the D or O. Im' going to be lazy and say either 2004 or 2008 offense, and either the 2001 or 2003 D.

I'm taking the 2008 offense (healthy) and the 2000 defense, and I'll play your team any and every day of the week! :)

Collier11
5/18/2009, 11:40 AM
what if my team is the 08 offense and the 01 Defense, you still wanna play every day of the week? ;)

CrimsonJim

That, Mr. Collier, would be a resounding, YES! :D

No love for the 2003 offense? anyone?

TheUnnamedSooner
5/18/2009, 12:25 PM
2000 on both! Can't go wrong with an undefeated team.

2nd choice would be 2004 O with 2001 D.

2000 Offense (and, this dream thing presupposes everyone is healthy -- which Heupel was not for the end of that season)

2003 Defense

The important thing, to me, about both units is that they weren't afraid of *anyone*, and both could inspire fear in their opponents.

I know most would go with Kelly at WR and Davin Joseph at guard would have been a much better selection so I'll blame that on a brain fart. I would probably go with Thatcher at FS, but another difficult decision.

TheUnnamedSooner

And for the coaches?

DC - Mike Stoops
OC - Chuck Long ;) I would have to go with Leach
QB - Heupel
Running Backs - Gundy
Secondary - Bob Stoops
Linebackers - Venebles

goingoneight
5/19/2009, 06:21 PM
HC/DC Bobby Stoops
LBC Brent Venables
SC Mikey Stoops
DLC Jackie Shipp
Booth: BJW I think used to call it up there...

OC Mike Leach
QBC Josh Heupel
WRC Steve Spurrier, Jr. or Kevin Sumlin
RBC Cale "The MAN'S Brother" Gundy
OLC Patton has a slight edge over Mangino
TE/FBC Kevin Wilson

QB Sammy B
RB AD/DM/Q (a good Sooner O utilizes 3, usually with varying styles)
FB Runnells
WR (outside) MK
WR (slot) MC
TE JG

We've had some DAMN good lines on both sides of the ball. We have starters, but almost ALWAYS we have a rotation. This makes it hard to pick Coop over Bubba and Carter... GK over Tommie and Dusty, etc.

Any of the "top 3" at any position in the Stoops era up front would be scary good. I'm partial to GK, Tommie, Cody, Coop and Brown, however.

Lehman, Marshall, Calmus is great... if you go with stats and NFL prowess, Lofton is your guy... but he never had the big stage moments Marshall did. Marshall's 2000 season is everything you can ask for in a player. Tough, productive, intimidating and a tremendous leader.

Depending on how you run your back seven...

CB Derrick Strait
CB Dominique Franks
SS TRRW
FS Ontei Jones
Nickel Nic Harris

That's just a quick, "I'm at work and I'd love to think more about it later" list.

Yeah man, Marshall was a beast. It's hard to make a team with only 22 players plus special teams, I just think Lofton was the best overall player in the middle. Torrance has bigger signature plays though, that's for sure.

Be careful going off of awards. Rufus played in some of our "down" years at the end of his career, and team success has a lot to do with who wins the awards. Also, Chris Weinke has a Heisman and Coach Heupel doesn't, and we all know how much that means...

Comparing the two head to head they were equal, so I used the Butkus as a way to determine who the best was.

Hah, this is a joke right? Assuming it is, last year's defense wasn't bad, the kick coverage was.
