A member of the Republican National Committee told me Tuesday that when the RNC meets in an extraordinary special session next week, it will approve a resolution rebranding Democrats as the “Democrat Socialist Party.”

So much for working on your own image...

Meh. It's tired, lame, and worn out. Comrade KC has used it about 4 gadzillion times already on this board alone. But I would expect no less from the current SF.com Minister of Socialist Propoganda.

Also, tell your sister to lose the Republicans for Voldemort bumper sticker dealio. Cute, semi-creative, but old. Older than the hills on granny's chest, and twice as dry.

which ones are those?

but still, the idea that they are deciding to call them that sounds like Rush is actually running the party. someone wasn't let in on a joke somewhere and the Pubs are starting to look like caricatures of themselves.

Very interesting read. It kinda echos what I've been saying for a while, only he's much smarter than me so it sounds better. I think the true conservatives downfall came when they expanded beyond fiscal conservatism. Your beliefs on gay marriage, abortion, and even immigration, to a point, should have nothing to do with being a conservative. Republicans have tried to become the moral superior, and it just isn't working.

I'm beginning to understand the ebb and flow of politics a bit, but can't help but think that flow is beginning to violently diverge. The left is too far left and the right is too far right, the swings are too great. Both sides are losing their minds and neither side seems to think being in the middle is a remotely a good thing. We need a Moderate-Conservative Party.

Yep, and the fiscal conservatives will either migrate to the Libertarians or may develop a new party...

I like to party...

I'm more carefully considering the Libertarians, but until they become a real threat, I think I'll maintain my republican status. This is still a two party system so I think I'll stay where I am and just try to steer the party where I want it to go.

The problem I see is that there is a fracture in the Republican party that is likely to end up a giant schism. This party was hijacked many years ago by right wing fundamentalists who weren't conservatives in the true sense of the wrod, rather shrewd political players who were trying to advance their agenda under the guise of "conservative values". If the Republicans stuck more to the ideals of true conservatism it would be in my opinion a more appealing party to middle of the road Independent voters.

Combine that with a Democratic party that is wildly popular and we're setting ourselves up for what I believe could be a lengthy run of Democratic control.
