I'll be there for one of the weekend games. Going to make it a study break.

Need to get a sweep. Hopefully the weather won't be a factor for the series. Will they make up the games if they get rained out??

Doyle gives up 2 2-run homers and it's 4-0 KU bottom 1

Collier11
5/1/2009, 08:57 PM
why the f*ck are we bunting with our best hitter at the plate?

Collier11
5/1/2009, 09:02 PM
Hernandez just had about a 10-15 pitch at bat and drew a walk, two on with no outs

Collier11
5/1/2009, 09:06 PM
what is sonny thinking, has baker try and bunt with 2 on and no outs even with 2 strikes and we strike out. talk about a potential rally killer

Collier11
5/1/2009, 09:12 PM
bases loaded two outs

Collier11
5/1/2009, 09:14 PM
rally killed

the rally was killed by baker watching 2 strikes........and then failing to get the bunt down on his attempt. i have no problem with the bunt call......i do scratch my head over bringing in hubbard to hit instead of ogle.

Collier11
5/1/2009, 09:27 PM
baker is a power hitter, you typically dont bunt with your 1st baseman

Soonerus
5/1/2009, 09:30 PM
Sooner, let's rally in the 8th...

5/1/2009, 09:33 PM
jt wise is a power hitter as well.......if baker does his job.......jt would have had a sac fly at the next at bat. tie ball game. OU has hit plenty of homeruns this year.....but they have also been very consistent in the small ball approach of moving runners to scoring position. every player on the squad has been called upon to lay down bunts this year......execution problem....not a strategy problem, imo.

Collier11
5/1/2009, 09:37 PM
goin to the 9th

jadubya
5/1/2009, 09:38 PM
jt wise is a powerhitter as well.....that is why you bunt the runners over to scoring position. if baker did his job.......then wise has a sac fly and we have a tie ball game. it was an execution problem, not a strategy problem - imo. ou has consistently played small ball to move runners around this year.

Collier11
5/1/2009, 09:38 PM
I just dont think you give up one of your best power hitters to bunt in that situation

jadubya
5/1/2009, 09:42 PM
sorry for the double post......i stated my case above. to each his own....ou has been doing that with much success all year long......so i can't really argue with it. baker got to good balls to bunt down the 3rd baseline....outside corner strikes.......and he watched them both. that is on baker....not the coaching staff. based on "power numbers" for this squad....you would effectively eliminate 5 out of your 9 hitters from failing to bunt a "power hitter".

Collier11
5/1/2009, 09:45 PM
true but if he puts a double in the gap we score two runs and win the game, to each their own, he is the coach

Collier11
5/1/2009, 09:45 PM
Down 1, going to bottom 9

jadubya
5/1/2009, 09:46 PM
great tag by harughty....let's go stix.

jadubya
5/1/2009, 09:48 PM
or he could have hit a home run, stuck out, hit into a DP.......who knows? i will just stick with what has been successful this year....which is exactly what baker was asked to do. baker didn't execute. a gazillion different scenarios could have played out....

Collier11
5/1/2009, 09:49 PM
you do realize there is a reason that mlb managers dont ask the 3-4-5 hitters to bunt, for reasons just like that. You dont take the bat out of one of your middle of the line up hitters.

jadubya
5/1/2009, 09:49 PM
sheesh...i can't spell rt now!

Collier11
5/1/2009, 09:51 PM
Well, we lose game 1 at home...not good

jadubya
5/1/2009, 09:57 PM
Collier....would you consider this years team to be effective offensively?

You do realize that a double play is a rally killer as well? Runners on 1st and 2nd with NO outs....sacrificing Baker to let other power hitter bring them in makes alot of sense to me.

Trust me, I fully understand what Baker can/can't do and I fully understand the point that you are trying to make. This team has been successful all year long moving runners from station to station and letting the hitter behind them (1 thru 9) drive them in. Baker did not execute...plain and simple. If he executes the gameplan that has given this team success ALL YEAR LONG, then this game is still being played right now (5-5). JT Wise proved the point right after Baker (0-5 tonight) by hitting a ball to deep center.

You may not like the strategy....but I don't think you can argue with the success that this team has had......using the exact same strategy you are taking issue with.

Collier11
5/1/2009, 10:00 PM
the reason he didnt execute is cus he is a power hitter, most power hitters dont but typically

Ardmore_Sooner
5/1/2009, 10:06 PM
Just be glad you guys didn't have to set through that crap.

jadubya
5/1/2009, 10:09 PM
uh....Baker has laid down several sac bunts successfully this year.....and drag bunted for 3 hits. i am pretty confident that he has proven his ability to bunt very well this year.....which is exactly why the bunt call was still on with 2 strikes.

jadubya
5/1/2009, 10:11 PM
ardmore....we left way too many runners in scoring position tonight. we really needed this win tonight....but we MUST win this series. seeding for the big 12 tournament is going to be crucial.....because every team has an ace! we don't want to be opposite kstate, ut, or a&m....their friday night guys are just plain sick.

Why wasn't Chris Ellison playing tonight? He can out hit Caleb Herron anyday.

Sac bunts suck and are completely unnecessary.

Top 6 teams in the standings seperated by 1.5 games. Losing these 2 games this weekend to rain could prove negatively on the final standings. We have got to get these two games in against KU with OU victories or UT & A&M might pull away in the standings.

Come on Gary England pull your weight with the weather God's!

Probably because Ellison just came off an 0-5 game at Arkansas with 4 k's.

The stats don't support your claim, mang :)
Herren: 342 avg / 479 slugging / 410 obp
Ellison: 337 avg / 482 slugging / 402 obp

Both great ballplayers....Ellison has been on fire as of late....but was really bad at the plate on Tuesday nite.

I'd rather have another left handed bat in the line-up anyday. Ellison may have gone 0-5, but in my eyes, he's a much better player than Herron no matter what the stats might say.

Looks like the Jekyll version of Garrett Richards showed up........which means his next start will be lights out! Man, that kid is frustrating.

Late to the party boys........

RE: the Ellison vs Herren debate........Ellison better wheels/Herren better arm. Good spot to be in when you have to choose between those two!

BTW...I hope to see all of your "board members" at the park on Friday night, May 15 vs TexAggy. PowerRoofing will be presenting a check to Leukemia Lymphoma Society to my wife and I that night. My son is Mitchell Whitaker.....and as you have heard on the radio....PowerRoofing has been donating $50 for every homer the Sooners hit this year to LLS in his honor.

Come introduce yourself.......

8-2 KU, going to the bottom of the 8th. Just terrible.

jadubya
5/2/2009, 07:25 PM
wow...we have certainly crapped the bed in this series. we better get it turned around because we have gone from an outside chance of being a national seed.....to playing ourselves out of hosting a regional.

nothing like making bedlam even more pressure packed......

Collier11
5/3/2009, 04:41 PM
OU pulls out a MUST HAVE victory 10-9, we are now 34-14 (12-9)

We absolutely need to take 4 or 5 out of 6 from A&M and pokie

Tomorrow we play Southern Utah, who is #2 in the Summit League and also didn't play a single game this weekend against #1 ORU because of rain. I have a feeling they will be throwing their ace.

jadubya
5/3/2009, 08:31 PM
Collier...agreed........we MUST win both of those series and a sweep would sure be nice! Baker is really in a funk the last 4 games (1 -15ish) at the plate....we need him rolling. This was just a screw ball series...lots of little bloop hits by KU but they did what they had to do. Frustrating.
