General Quarters if you like one with an outside chance and decent odds.

Dunkirk has a real shot at leading the pack at the finish line.

I Want Revenge...scratched.:D

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Morning-line favorite I Want Revenge is out of the Kentucky Derby.
The owners of the 3-year-old colt have scratched the Wood Memorial winner hours before the Run for the Roses as a precaution after trainer Jeff Mullins discovered a hot spot on the horse's left front ankle.
An X-ray did not find any damage, but with a wet track expected for the Derby, Mullins and owner David Lanzman didn't want to take any chances.
I Want Revenge and 19-year-old Joe Talamo were to start from post No. 13 in the Derby. The duo established themselves as one of the Derby favorites after a last-to-first dash in the Wood Memorial last month.
Mullins says he doesn't expect the injury to be career-threatening.

Funny things happen in the Sport of Kings.

I'm a horse racing conspiracy theorist. Other than a hotspot (yeah right), why could I Want Revenge have been scratched?

a) the sheik from Dubai paid the owner/trainer to scratch him so his horse has a better chance
b) the trainer, who will be suspended tomorrow for a week for giving one of his horses an OTC human medication, wanted to avoid another scandal
c) Nope, it is an injury and the trainer is doing the right thing THIS TIME
d) the owner of another horse wanted that jockey and paid off the vet
e) some other type of shenanigans

discuss.

Well, that wasn't a race, it was a rugby match.

Still, I like Calvin and this was a great win for him.

Preakness will be up in the air, completely.

FWIW, my Dunkirk stumbled out of the gate and spent the race trying to muscle back up...sigh.

Still, it was more of a controlled scrum than a race. The overhead shots of the winner moving up on the rail were pretty remarkable.

I get what you are saying, this sort of stuff happened at a track in Illinois back in the 80's....i'm not sure if it was Arlington or not but one of the tracks had serious mafia connections and if they said you were not supposed to win, then yeah it's best to pull up at the line.

My belief is that Arlington was involved, part of the reason that it took so long for that track to come back after decades of corruption..they had to make sure all the rotten elements were gone before horsemen would set foot in there.

The great one Willie Shoemaker had mounts that behaved a certain way that in appearance made you think the horse was in danger of getting injured, but it wasn't, he just felt that the horse had no more to give and wanted to save him for another day at the orders of the owner/trainer.

Oh yeah, ESPN/ABC are always over Bafferts jock....that sort of thing comes with winning races and I agree....I can't stand the **********.

While I don't agree with the day that the winning owner/trainer behaved after winning, it's good for the sport that the little guy can indeed win.
I doubt he runs the horse in the Preakness though, Belmont maybe.

After watching the snogglefest that rivals anything Tim Tebow or our president receives from the media, I noticed after the race that the horse that the mounted commentator was riding had a fancy leather topped saddle blanket that had Bob Baffert etched in the leather, plain to see.

I know racing is a tight community, but if I was another trainer/owner, I'd be a bit put-out by all the oral BB gets from the networks.

It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't obviously love it so much.

BudSooner
5/3/2009, 11:28 AM
The racing community needs D. Wayne Lukas back, he always brought horses that gave old Bob fits.

This one was a lesson in humility. No matter how much money the big boys threw at it, they couldn't buy a winner. A $9500 horse was better than a slew of million dollar ones.

Lott's Bandana
5/3/2009, 03:31 PM
Now you can add a coupla zeroes to the end of that pricetag.

49.5 lengths??? is that still in kentucky??
