My Basset hound Harley has had a red eye. It is always somewhat red, but it seems worse! Have any of you ever had doggy eye problems? I'm afraid he might be getting "cherry eye."

I had a bulldog that had a cherry eye and it was MUCH worse than what you've got. That eye does look a bit swollen, so I'd keep watching it. If it looks like it's really bothering him, take him in.

Can you use people eye drops on dogs? That's about how my eyes look when I have to wake up earlier than I want to and eye drops do the trick every time :)

Right, and you can even use benedril for stuff like this. It works pretty good. Dogs have allergies too. I know mine does.

:). Thanks everyone for all the advice...I worry about him like he is a human!

He is a fine lookin hound :) AND he does get into lots of trouble. That's why he's with us (his previous owners lovingly named him Harley...you know...before they beat him and decided he smelled too bad to keep him).

Basset Hounds are the most lovable animals on Earth. Anyone who would beat one is a sociopath (who should be shot). Period.

That's a fine looking hound, a beautiful dog.

A vet told me Bassets are very susceptible to allergies. Our Basset suffered every spring. He might just be suffering like a lot of us humans when the winter turns to spring.
