Forgive me if I missed it but does anyone know if that screwball tie-breaker rule that sent OU to the Big 12 Conference footbal championship game has been changed?

I was under the impression that there was to be a meeting of conference muckety-mucks in March or April & that it would be addressed then.

Little help, please!!

I think they have meetings coming up, not sure of specifics

I like the rules the way they are and will be pissed if they change them. In no way is it fair to reduce a three way tie to two teams.

Watch them change the rules and Texas get "screwed" (in quotes because I don't think they got "screwed" at least not any more than Tech did) again. I might rather lose a game and watch that scenario pan out than go undefeated.

I jest!

You want your best shot at getting a BIG XII team into the Championship game. The current tie breaker does that. That doesn't make it "screwball" in my eyes.

I wonder if college football finds it ironic that Oklahoma, a school with a history of breaking NCAA rules, is doing quite well recently by playing according to BCS and Big 12 rules, seemingly every year when it is in the discussion for tie breakers, OU is in championship games, both conference and national... all because they paid attention to the rules!

OU: We're beating you by playing by the rules now :D

The proposed new rule is that if there is any kind of three-way tie in the conference, Texas goes regardless.

speaking of rules, did you hear about our recent rules violations (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4084733)? Scroll to the bottom

Not a big deal, this is something that most schools turn in every year im pretty sure

If texas would like to take their ball and go back to the Southwest Conference...I'd be OK with it. Matter of fact...if they'd like to take along any trash they came with...that would be fine by me too.

Something to stop the crying from Austin would be nice. Education and reality don't seem to work.

Someone (http://www.tulsaworld.com/sports/article.aspx?subjectid=92&articleid=20090423_231_B1_hrimgs129989)'s suggested that instead of seeking more ways to break ties, the Big 12 should just put the two top teams in the Big 12 championship.

2008: OU vs. Texaz (with apologies to Tech)
2007: Mizzou vs. Kansas (both teams had one loss!)
2006: OU vs. Texaz (Nebbish ended 9-5, UT ended 10-3)
2005: Texaz vs. Tech (might have been a better game than 70-3 and Barnett might have kept his job longer)
2004: OU vs. Texaz (the only loss UT had that season was to us)
2003: OU vs. KSU (the most recent-history game where they had the two teams)
2002: OU vs. KSU or CU (we played Colorado that year, who I think had the tiebreaker)
2001: Nebraska vs. Colorado (Texaz got embarrassed that year against Colorado, as I'm sure we all recall)
2000: OU vs. Nebraska or KSU (north tiebreakers got KSU in this game, right?)
1999: Neb vs. KSU (actual game NU vs. Tex)
1998: A&M vs. KSU (another game they got right)
1997: Neb. vs KSU (Huskers destroyed A&M that year)
1996: Neb vs Colorado (Texaz upset Nebraska)

I bolded the years that using the top 2 teams in the title actually happened (although tiebreakers may have caused some of those matchups to not happen). Also, because I was not here for half of the Big 12, I based the top 2 on ap/coaches rankings if I was unsure, which I know would factor in bowl results, so they may be :les:inakrut[hairGel]

Thoughts?

2003 should've been a RRS rematch. OU was UT's only conference loss that year (they lost to Arkansas in Austin as well), while KSU had 3 game losing streak vs. UT, OSU & a home field OOC loss to Marshall.

It would be so, so sweet if the tiebreaker is adjusted and next year somehow OU goes over Texas on the new tiebreaker, but Texas would have gone under the old.

It would be refreshing if regardless of the result, the whorns didn't howl like banshees either before or afterwards.
