View Full Version : 2009-2010 Schedule Rumors/Confirmations

It's never too early......I started one of these last year as well.

Please post any rumors and/or confirmations about our OOC schedule for next year in this thread. As of right now I don't believe we are involved in any major preseason tournmanets (we are going to Maui in 2010 though). I do know we will most likely be on the road against a PAC-10 team in the Big 12/PAC 10 Challenge, but other than that, I know nothing. Any insider help would be appreciated.

As far as Pac-10 my money is on Arizona or Washington (maybe Arizona State). I'll say Washington though.

I would love for it to be UCLA, but I suspect they will match up Kansas and UCLA.

Also......

at Utah

I'd be kinda surprised if we played at VCU or at least at their arena. I could see a game with them in D.C., or something.

It was in his VCU contract that if he left he would have to come back and play VCU.

I thought after OU played VCU at the Ford center it satisfied his contract? Its a home and away they have to play?

That's weird.

VCU started writing into their coaches contracts that coaches who left to larger schools would have to schedule a home-and-home with VCU. Alabama has to play a home-and-home with VCU now for hiring Anthony Grant. VCU does this to get BCS schools to go there and play them.

I would like to see them schedule more ACC opponents. 'Twas fun a few years ago when UConn (although they're Big East I know) came to town back when they had Rudy Gay. 'Twould be even more fun with a home-and-home involving UNC (REVENGE!) or Duke (K vs K-Pro?) :D Seeing how Florida State is on track to not sucking in basketball now, they would also be a good one to schedule.

Just for the unofficial record I have also heard Gonzaga (in Seattle) for the 2007 All-College return game. I just cannot find an offical link, so until then it is just rumor.

It being football season and all, I would like to see some rivalries developed beyond just one sport.

For example, when we play Tennessee in football soon, we can also schedule them in men's/women's basketball, baseball/softball, etc. in the same season. We can call it the NOT Fulmer Cup, heh.

Are we playing Tulsa in Tulsa again this year? Was that a one time thing or did we set up and home and home? Anyone in the know on that?

P.S. The Zags seem pretty confident we are playing in Seattle

That was a home/home in '97 (Parker & Gumbo both went off) & '99 (Heupel's record setting day). Kinda ironic that Chris Redman initially commits to OU, transfers to Louisville, & gets beat by his old school twice.

Here's the ones that are confirmed

Louisiana Monroe Nov 17
Arkansas, @Gonzaga, @VCU, @ Utah
Arizona in Norman around Dec 1st Pac 10/Big 12 thing.

We may play in the Great Alaskan tournament, and we may play another SEC team.

OUSKINS
7/10/2009, 07:19 PM
It's unofficially OSU's turn to get the "marquee" game, so we'll have to see. In general, the teams rotate each year between one playing a big name and the other playing a lesser opponent. The team playing the bigger game usually gets the second game of the night.

Last year was kind of an exception with Rhode Island and VCU as the opponents-- OU played Gonzaga the year before and I guess they were given the "marquee" game again last year because they played second.

I'd be mildly surprised if OU got it three years in a row.

So here is a summation so far:

Louisiana-Monroe (11/17)
Great Alaska Shootout - 3 games (11/25-11/28)
at Utah
at VCU
Arkansas
Gonzaga (Seattle) ?
Arizona
UTEP (All-College)

So that's 10 games. Looks like we are missing 3-4 more.....most of them probably being home. NDPruitt. Any other info???/

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's basketball team will compete in the six-team Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout Nov. 25-28. The Sooners will play three games at Anchorage's Sullivan Arena.

Oklahoma has competed in the Great Alaska Shootout on two previous occasions (1983-84 and 2004-05 seasons) and finished in third place both times (eight-team fields).

The remainder of OU's non-conference schedule is expected to be announced soon.

Wild. They've always run it as an 8-team single-out/loser's bracket tournament before. (ie if you had a loss you weren't eligible for the championship game, but you'd still get two loser's brackets games to determine placement.)

Yeah, ESPN declined to renew the contract to show the Shootout a couple of years ago. Their coverage had gotten increasingly weak to the point where they were only showing the championship game over the years. Not ESPN's fault-it was getting harder and harder to get a quality field. The last REALLY good field I can think of was in 2003 (I think) with us, Alabama, Utah, and a Nate Robinson-led Washington team.
