Notible finished rounds:

Jim Furyk -6 (leader)
Greg Norman -2
Tits +1

Tiger is +1 through 8

Todd Hamilton with -4. Will it be enough to make the cut when he shoots 78 today? ;)

AK with 75.

Todd Hamilton with -4.
Stunned when I saw that. Stunned.

What's the over/under on his round today? 76?

heck, i saw him play a couple holes on the internet stream yesterday and he missed about a 5 foot uphill birdie putt, as well. The announcers had all but given it to him....and he fanned it.

Color me completely stunned now. Todd's rattled off three straight birdies and is now -1 through 10 and -5 for the tournament.

His British Open win has got to be one of the all-time WTF moments.

King Crimson
4/10/2009, 12:08 PM
erratic but effective finish has Hamilton -6, -2 under today with an eagle, bogey, par, birdie finish.

i'd guess that might keep him in the top 5-10 by the end of the day.

King Crimson
4/10/2009, 01:04 PM
Kim -4 through 9. -1 for the tournament.

King Crimson
4/10/2009, 01:22 PM
Kim bogey, double at 9 and 10. he has 1 par on his scorecard through 10.

6 birdies, 2 under for the day.

Kim: bounces back and birdies 12, 13, 14....9 birdies in 14 holes, -5 so far today. -2 for the tournament.

edit: add 15 to the birdie run. -3

masters on demand keeps causing firefox to crash, sort of annoying.

odds and ends:

in the "Yikes!" category: Briny Baird's putting stroke--crosshanded plus the crazy feet stance.

Tom Watson makes the turn at +4 and reasonably thinking about making the cut with a birdie here and there. shoots 45 on the back. ouch.

Shingo Katayama warms up on the practice tee by hitting a left handed 3 iron, from the left side...he's a righty. i watched him do this at Pinehurst a couple mornings...pretty impressive to watch. He stripes it pretty good.

Couples, Villegas, Phil, Ben Curtis, Olazabal, Adam Scott, Cink all at or around the projected cut.

Goosen, Els probably out. Have to think both those guys will have too many more opportunities to win majors. seems like the game has moved on a bit from their time of dominance.

KC//CRIMSON
4/10/2009, 03:34 PM
Eldrick still in the hunt at -2. If he can get his putting honed in, look out. He missed four or five birdies yesterday by less than half an inch. Ugh.

King Crimson
4/10/2009, 03:36 PM
Kim birdies 18 for a cool 65 (with a double and two bogeys on a par 72 golf course).

Tom got a new hip a few months ago. I imagine the terrain had him pretty weary at the end.

I always root for Tiger but with him out of it, I wouldn't mind seeing Perry win it. Or Tits. Kim, Furyk or Stricker would be okay too.

Mjcpr
4/10/2009, 11:04 PM
No, he probably isn't out of it but it's going to take a comeback of epic proportions. I wouldn't put anything past him but he's going to have to shoot something really low tomorrow and hope a number of folks come back to the pack a little.

King Crimson
4/11/2009, 08:04 AM
Tits made it all the way back to -3. Impressive. Most impressive.

Tits, Vijay, and Garcia all rallied on the back to sort of position themselves to somewhat maybe contend after flirting with missing the cut. the "old guy" awards go to Larry Mize and Sandy Lyle. I thought Langer (who always seems to play well at Augusta) would join that group but he posted 70-80.

Eldrick has a lot of good players between him and the lead. He's not out of it, but it would be a real feat to win this one. if either Campbell, Perry, or Cabrera break 70 today and push the lead into -11, -12 territory....it's way uphill for Tiger. he needs 66 or 67 today or forget about it, and even that might not be enough.

Mjcpr

Speaking of Tits, Lyle had a pretty nice rack going on; it was nearly Monty-esque.

the beer in the UK is pretty damned good. i could see getting married to the barley-based tits maker over there....if you were in the autumn of your pro golfing career.

Todd Hamilton has put on a few, as well. From what i hear, Todd seems to like the "the Open Champion" lifestyle more than practicing. can't blame the guy, after grinding it out in Thailand and the Asian Tour for years...wth?

Kim is +1 for the day, but very much representing the crimson and cream, clothes-wise.

your winner is pretty much Perry, Campbell, Cabrera, i'd bet at this point.

King Crimson
4/11/2009, 04:08 PM
i'd like to pull for Sergio, since he's choked his balls out so many times on Sunday (golf is a cruel game, i know)....but I think really....maybe when he's about 33 he can win the PGA. then, i could pull for his only major win.

King Crimson
4/11/2009, 04:48 PM
Jimmy Furyk playing his way into the Sunday groups that matter.....3 birdies in a row.

i'd really like to see Furyk win a 2nd major. he hasn't been the clutch guy as much lately in the international comps, (choked his guts out, actually)....but i'd like to see the guy cement himself as a top player/two time major winner.

King Crimson

Hamilton's five or six back all day and the only shots they show are his final two putts. We were recapped on Phil's 71 and Tiger's 70 ad nauseum, the ironic thing is their both two back of Hamilton.

Oh well.

I'm pulling for Cabrera. I'll never forget the 340-yard nuke he hit on 18 at Oakmont in the final round.

Kenny Perry has always annoyed me, and his comment about "having" to play the Tour Championship last year and it being the worst week of his life reeked of d o u c h e b a g g e r y when you consider last place was guaranteed $112,000.

Screw him. Go Cabrera, the chain-chomping nicotine gum chewer.

worse than that, i log on to yahoosports.com about noon and there's a full front picture/caption about "lefty going crazy" or some shizz. i figure he's shooting 59 or something and in the hunt. turns out, he's -2, a million shots off the lead. just stupid.

might as well be Britney Spears.

Kenny Perry's 9 part swing will make you go blind.

There are so many things that can go wrong with that golf swing, but the fool always seems to stripe it. He gets down through the ball as well as anyone out there.

Hogan would've certainly been aghast.

Hogan, would probably die watching Kenny Perry.

Lee Trevino has to be the most underrated golfer EVER. he would have made Hogan cringe. with that outside in swing. the short game just made for links golf.

6 majors. he beat Nicklaus 4 times head to head.

Hogan adored Trevino's action. He'd send prototypes from the Hogan Company factory in Fort Worth over to Dallas so Trevino could test them out. He said, "that Mexican hits it better than anybody".

He just couldn't hit it right to left, and that's why he never won a Masters. I wonder how many more Trevino would've won had he not been struck by lightning at the Western Open. His back was never the same. He did win the PGA at the age of 44.

that's interesting, didn't know that. i still say that's pretty impressive to beat jack 4 times head to head for majors.

and he finished tied with Shingo, who they showed all day. Hamilton is a pretty bland guy though, so I can see why he didn't get a bunch of air time. They should have showed a few more shots though.

I'm probably pulling for Furyk - don't really have a problem with any of the guys on the first page though - except Sabbatini.

King Crimson

Hamilton also made 11 pars on his last 12 holes. that's not exactly what the networks call "excitement", for better or worse.

though, last night yahoo has Mickelson on it's front page and he's 10 shots back,

That was some awesome stuff out there today. Phil didn't lose it at 12, he lost it by missing putts at 14, 15 and 17. 14 was totally bad luck, but you've got to make the five-footers if you want to win. If he makes those three putts he finishes at -12.

I'm happy for Angel. Kenny seems like a nice guy, but I was pulling Cabrera all the way. That par from jail on the first playoff hole was an all-timer.

King Crimson
