Churchill didn't deserve to be fired for the 9/11 essay, but certainly deserved to be fired for fabricating sources in his other work which includes claiming John Smith waged biological warfare against the Native Americans in 1614. I've read the essay and it doesn't say we deserved 9/11, it's thesis is that due to US military involvement in Mid-East during the 90s under Clinton and Bush one could make the argument that 9/11 wasn't the opening attack of war when the US had been bombing Iraq for a decade. It also makes the arguments that Americans wildly cheering the operations in Iraq weren't radically different than Germans cheering on the siege of Russia. I don't agree with it and it uses a lot radical hyperbole, but at least represent the essay right.

I read a few of his books back in my younger, dumber, liberal days... I guess he can right what he wants, theres enough young college kids to buy his books and take them as absolute truth for him to make money.

There is a common myth in the African American community about widespread Indian ancestry as well. A fascinating show "African American Lives" by Professor Henry Louis Gates did a genetic analysis of Maya Angelou, Bliss Broyard, Don Cheadle, Morgan Freeman, Peter Gomes, Kathleen Henderson, Linda Johnson Rice, Tom Joyner, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Chris Rock and Tina Turner. Virtually every person named above believed that they had a "great grandmother" or other relative who was Native American. The DNA analysis showed there was virtually no Indian blood in any of the persons studied. Interestingly enough the DNA analysis showed a minimum of 20% and higher European genetic heritage.

I would highly recommend this program if you can catch it. Very well done, compelling, and touching. Kind of like a more modern "Roots" with a scientific basis.

It is my opinion (as well as the jury who heard the case) that he wasn't fired for the reasons you listed. Many people feel he was fired because of his incendiary comments about 09/11. I have read the essay in question and think it offers an interesting, if one-sided evaluation of the events leading up to September 11th.

She did fairly briefly at the beginning of her career. It was kind of a big deal among natives up here when it came out that she had no NA derivation.

At least that's what I've been told. I'm not particularly interested in what race people claim to be unless they're attempting to grab benefits they're not entitled to (like BIA health care or whatever.) Hell, tell people you're half doberman and half Pitcairn Islander for all I care. :D
