View Full Version : Hanbrough...overated...

...he might not have even started at OU this year...other NC players are great though...

This is probably the first Soonerus post I've ever agreed with, but he's absolutely right. UNC was the better team, but Blake made Hansbrough his bitch.

Edit: I just read the title and not the part about him not starting here. He'd start here, but he is overrated. And he has gigantic bug eyes.

Eielson

You had the nerve to post this only a few days after saying that the Big East was overrated and the Big XII would have 3 final four teams?

Look, Hansbrough may be somewhat overrated, but you can't ignore facts. He averaged 22.6 points and 10.2 rebounds last year, and was the National Player of the Year. All four years he has been at UNC he has averaged 18.4-22.6 points per game and 7.8-10.2 rebounds per game. He is no Blake Griffin, but he is still a stud. I don't know how you can say you don't think a first team all-american and former player of the year could start for our team.

To say he wouldn't start here is laughable.

I don't think Hansbrough is way overrated. Just not in the league of Blake. I don't think Blair or Thabeet individually would have had any more luck against Blake.

Sooner04
3/30/2009, 11:40 PM
The kid got in foul trouble and his team did fine without him. Do you want him to come in and impose his will when they're already up 15? We all know Blake is the better player by far, but to say Hansbrough wouldn't start at Oklahoma is nuts.

T went out like a punk, but then again, so did our entire team because we couldn't hit a 3 until late :(

I bet Blake would have traded his stats for Tyler's if it meant OU was in the Final Four... of course, Blake wouldn't have had the mopey face throughout the game if OU was ahead the entire time like UNC was :(

I wonder if Hans benefits from the same deceiving stat inflation that our dear CP3 does?

My problem with TH is he does the "who me" look with those f'ed up eyes anytime he gets a foul and if someone roughs him up he almost cries. But he is still a good player

My big problem with Hans is he couldn't give Blake any credit. "He's a great rebounder was his comment". Man the kid is grumpy. His coach compared Blake with Labron.

3/31/2009, 11:12 AM
Yukon, he probably didn't want to give the Naismith voters anymore reason to vote for him than the game already provided. When we used to do speech competitions back in high school, some kids would be SO competitive that when others were speaking, they would death stare the speaker the entire time, or shake their head coldly in disagreement with everything they were saying, or other distracting measures in an effort to convince the judge to bedowngrade 'em. I think Tyler was playing the same game by not complimenting Blake.

Compliments or not, I think BG's performance throughout the season and tourney, getting up after some nasty takedown maneuvers solidified his status as Naismith winner and better yet for his professional future, No. 1 pick overall. Would I dare venture a guess as to where "Psycho T" will go?

 ...not in the top 10.

He's only the ACC's all time leading scorer, but there's been no good players come out of that league

That being said I heard Seth Davis before the game say that UNC was going to win because TH was going to outplay BG. That was an idiotic statement. UNC was going to (did) win because their guard play completely outclasses ours. There's no way TH is going to outplay BG, foul trouble or not.

which has nothing to do with how good he was in college. hansbrough would start here, and he and blake would be a formidable frontline. he is nowhere close to the same ballpark as blake and he knows it, thus the weak i'm gonna throw the basketball like a football at the rim when i'm 6 feet away from it to hope it goes in and looks like i dunked on griffin shot.

Only problem...the whistle was for traveling.

Blake is on his own planet compared to all these guys. Hansborough is not near as good as Blair and Thabeet is a defensive stud with absolutely no offensive game.

Agreed that Hansbrough was completely exposed by Griffin. There's no way to verify this really, but my guess is that that game probably cost him a few million by way of slipping down the draft board about 10 pegs or so.

Hansbroughs strength is also his great problem. His strength is his effort and ability to maximize his potential. His problem is that he's already way too close to his ceiling.

He's probably going to make history as the reason why some stupid NBA GM gets fired three years from now "for drafting Tyler Hansbrough with the ## pick in the ## round."

The dude is averaging 8.6 fouls per 48 minutes. That means if he played three full games he'd foul out FOUR times. Not only is he injured all the time, but when he's healthy he's still on the bench because he doesn't know how to play fundamentally sound defensive.

I feel bad for Portland fans. They'd have a monster team with Kevin Durant and Brandon Roy working things from the perimeter.

he has also had 18 double doubles this year. to label a guy a bust in just his third year removed from high school is silly. he does need to get healthy though.

TopDawg

But the point isn't that Bowie was bad. Bowie was a decent player...(averaged 12.7 ppg/7.9 rpg through his first 7 years) he just wasn't Michael Jordan.

Right now, it's looking like the Trailblazers made the wrong pick. It might end up working out for them, but (emphasis added):

Sam Bowie is currently being played by Greg Oden.

seems to be the way it stands right now.

IF you are going to compare Bowie to MJ and label him a bust then Oden can be compared to guys like Kobe and Lebron who came straight from hs, also when you put him up against Durant who shoulda been picked 1st(good thing for us he wasnt), in all of those scenarios he has been a disappointment at the least and is looking alot like a bust.
