So Redoubt keeps blowing up, and now the ash plume has reached Anchorage. Just awesome. Looks like I'll be spending tonight watching James Bond movies and sealing windows.

Anyone have some spackle they can send me so we can plug this thing up?

On second thought, don't bother. The airport is closed until further notice. No mail or other package deliveries for a while. Grumble.

For a minute there, I was afraid Bruce Campbell slipped on some ice or something.

So is this going throw up enough ash to **** with weather patterns? If so, your misfortune could increase my income.

Well, I'm glad Bobby Jindal targeted volcano monitoring in his Republican Response to highlight all that wasteful government spending.

Wait, what?

Just as long as it's over by July. There's a big King in the Kenai with my name on it.

Well, they're saying that the eruption cycle could last up to six months. :(

An eruption event, if it is of sufficient magnitude, could be a good thing, climate-wise. Enough ash reaching the upper atmosphere will in the short term depress temperatures worldwide. Mt. Pinatubo did that when it went off, with the effects measurable two years afterwards (in the U.S. the summer of 1992 was the third coolest and wettest in 77 years). Of course, that eruption is considered the second-largest of the 20th century. This one, though not as large as the Mt. Pinatubo event, is particularly good because it doesn't look like anyone will die as a result of this eruption unlike Pinatubo in 1991 (over 800 dead, the permanent loss of Clark Air Force base and thousands of Filipinos who are still displaced).
