Is this heaven?
No, it's Iowa City.

Sooners lead early, 5-0. Let's NOT choke away the Sweet 16 this year!

tommieharris91
3/24/2009, 08:35 PM
And to add to your rant in another thread, we could be playing Iowa on their home court tonight. Thanks GT!!

Chuck Bao
3/24/2009, 08:36 PM
Thanks bri for starting the thread. I was beginning to wonder.

Yahoo doesn't even have the boxscore up yet.

Boomer!

tommieharris91
3/24/2009, 08:38 PM
So instead of turning the ball over every other possession, we can't hit a brick wall if we threw the ball at it. It's still 5-0 though.

bri
3/24/2009, 08:39 PM
You know who I feel bad for? Ashley Paris. Everyone treats her like the lesser of the two sisters, but it's glaringly obvious that Courtney is the Tito of the Paris family. Watching Ashley running the floor effortlessly while Courtney, well, we all know you're never gonna see Courtney on a runout.

Time out on the floor, we're winning. I saw something shiny and missed the score and time. Oops.

badger
3/24/2009, 08:39 PM
What I see so far is a turnover prone team with a big girl down low that just stands near the basket the entire time while her teammates do the best job they can of losing the ball or missing shots in an awkward fashion.

OU is playing also ;)

EDIT: 5-0 15:50 left in 1st

soonerfan28
3/24/2009, 08:40 PM
And they're still up by 5.

bri
3/24/2009, 08:40 PM
Jesus Christ, this Georgia Tech team is the collective death of boners. *shudder*

bri
3/24/2009, 08:42 PM
And a 3 pointer makes the score

Whitney Hand - 8
Georgia Tech - 2

soonerfan28
3/24/2009, 08:43 PM
nice Bri. Hand has a nice stroke though.:D

bri
3/24/2009, 08:45 PM
Hand stroke got me through high school.

Wait, what?

Sooners now up 10, 14-4.

tommieharris91
3/24/2009, 08:47 PM
Only Robinson and Hand have scored. What's impressive is that we are up 8.

OK, that was strange and stupid. Vining drops the ball right in front of her and can't pick it up without getting a double dribble call. So she just watches it roll out of bounds.

Sooner98
3/24/2009, 08:47 PM
ESPN plays a cruel joke and pretends to almost switch us to the LSU/Louisville game. Thanks.

bri
3/24/2009, 08:48 PM
And it's the under-12 media timeout! Time to switch over to the Thunder game.

*switches channel*

LAL - 90
OKC - 72

Huh. Never mind.

*switches back*

badger
3/24/2009, 08:49 PM
Aww, peas. ESPN2 HD just switched to the LSU game. Whoever thought of "whip around" coverage should be whipped in the butt. Now watching Sooner basketball in standard def.

This game will show how talented CP3 really is, when she has to matchup against a player her speed, size and height. GT seems to be giving her the double team treatment occasionally too, but that's what a star "first ever four-time AP All-American" should expect.

They are now showing a graphic on OU breaking GT's press. Tee hee. It's nice to be the team without all the turnovers for once. :)

bri
3/24/2009, 08:49 PM
Heh, ESPN has a graphic prepared keeping track of our success/failure against the press. It's almost as if they've seen us play before.

16-6, OU as the Robinson/Hand show continues.

bri
3/24/2009, 08:50 PM
Actually, this game will show how hopelessly out of shape and reliant on her mass Courtney is.

SoonerJack
3/24/2009, 08:53 PM
well badger at least you get it in some kind of def. i've just got lsu and l'ville. ugh

tommieharris91
3/24/2009, 08:53 PM
If only our men could break a press like that...

And right after I type that, OU gets an over-and-back call because of the press.

bri
3/24/2009, 08:54 PM
for people who can get it, it should be available on ESPN360.

I almost linked to March Madness on Demand out of force of habit. :D

soonerfan28
3/24/2009, 08:54 PM
Yea, that was a nice backcourt.

bri
3/24/2009, 08:55 PM
Our lead is down to 18-13, turnovers even at 5 each.

Chuck Bao
3/24/2009, 08:55 PM
You loyal Sooner fans keep the updates coming. I still ain't getting nothing from Yahoo.

Mucho thanks in advance.

20-13. commercial break

badger
3/24/2009, 08:57 PM
I am watching it on ESPNU... standard def

OU has taken over the lead once again... in turnovers. We apparently have 6 to their 5 with that over-and-back called on Vining. Coach Coale couldn't bench poor Jenny fast enough after that call... that and watching the ball dribble outta bounds

Her replacement, the healed hand of Whitney Hand, immediately got a bucket off a press break :D

bri
3/24/2009, 08:58 PM
Whitney Hand has 10 points and is perfect thus far - 3-3 FG, 2-2 FT.

bri
3/24/2009, 08:58 PM
Baylor's trailing by 11 early in their game. Skeletor is probably extra grimace-y.

They're uglier when you put em on the caliber of women on Georgia Tech's team.

BTW, not to look too far ahead or anything, but the road to St. Louie has gotten a bit easier, with the #2 (Auburn), and #3 (UNC) in OU's bracket losing.

Our bigs shoot like they're angry at the backboard.

badger
3/24/2009, 09:06 PM
Abi's in getting more minutes and is currently in next to Ashley Paris, who is missing a lot of gimmie shots (o for 6, according to the announcers). What's keeping us in this game are our speedy guards and our early lead built by Hand's hand. It is frustrating to watch us fall apart :(

EDIT: The commercial break starts with the Sham-wow guy. I don't know what I've done to deserve this, but I'm praying for forgiveness right now.

Tied at halftime against the 9 seed, with a shot at OKC possibly being blown in the next 20 minutes. This team will be the death of me.

bri
3/24/2009, 09:25 PM
That's what you get for actually believing in them. I've learned that anything beyond a first-round win is pie in the sky and pure gravy.

F*ck this, I'm playing Ms. Pac-Man.

Mesa back! [/jarjar]

50-38 with about 910 mins left in the game.

For the record Jack Sooner Swagger got booted in the head by Evan Bourne... but he didn't look like a chump in defeat, so it's ok :)

The break did me good. I'll keep with occasional commentary updates when necessary. Boomer!

Georgia Tech is not good at basketball. We should be winning by 25 right now.

badger
3/24/2009, 10:05 PM
Uniform update: STILL ugly. the numbers are so low on the back they're like butt numbers.

Why did D-Rob get a technical?
They just said a sec ago that CP3 had 6 pts and 8 rbs

EDIT: Speaking of retro games, NP just got some game that has a bunch of old Sega games on it. Golden Axe is a wonderful reminder of the smoky bowling alley back in Wisky that had it 20 years ago :)

So what was DRob's techie for?

from that national sports network and the article on the game

"But Robinson, who shot 5-of-5 from the field and 7-of-7 from the line, opened the second half with an impressive steal and layup. She followed it with perhaps her only mistake of the night, picking up a technical foul after celebrating the play, but it didn't hurt the Sooners one bit.

It was for pumping her fist after a layup.

Sounds like a pity tech for georgia tech. ;)

Personally I am very happy for OU. The chance for play for a Final Four close to home is something the Sooners nearly had a few years ago (2004?), but didn't achieve because of those d@mn dancing trees  That game pizzed me off so much, so I'm glad they have the chance now.

First and foremost, Whitney Hand is back. She scored the first 10 points for the Sooners off of two three's, free throws and a press breakin' layup. She was also very solid on defense, picking off a few passes and such.

However, player of the game rightfully went to Danielle Robinson. 17 points off 5-5 fg, 7-7 ft and 6 assists. She is what we were missing when we tanked against Ole Miss a few years ago for one of our Paris era early exits. When GT was trying to figure out how to guard Hand's 3 shooting or CP3's post position, D-Rob would run by them all for an easy layup.

What's now missing is Amanda Thompson. She provided a great mid-range jumper (that a few posters here love, I know) during the regular season, but only had 3 minutes last night. We all hope she makes a speedy recovery and returns to the main lineup soon!

Even though Ashley and Courtney didn't score in double figures, they both had solid rebounding performances. It is good to see Abi Olaja.... Olaju... Hakeem's daughter get playing time to offer them some rest and recovery from the double and triple teams. Even if the post players don't get points, at least they're getting rebounds to give their teammates a chance to score instead.

Off the bench, poor Jenny Vining had an off-night and Coale punished her with a lot of bench time. Watching the ball dribble out of bounds when you could have easily picked it up as you stand there will do that. Sorry. Carly Roethlis....??? ugh, my spelling sucks and I apologize... anyway, Carly had 8 pts off the bench on 4-5 shooting. With this being a huge point margin, everyone got at least a minute on the court.

The golden raspberry award once again goes to team turnovers, which were lower than our 125.4 per game season average at a mere 16, but there were clearly passes that the Torso Bras should have picked off, but for some reason didn't. OU tried to move too fast in many situations to break the press, which resulted in sloppy passes, sloppy ball handling or sloppy shots (which I know don't count as TO's, but were still ALMOST as ugly as those GT uniforms). It certainly helped that GT was also TO prone, with 14 for the night.

Congrats to the Sooner ladies on their sixth Sweet 16 trip in school history. Yes, OU's only been there six times and the only Final Four was in 2002, and no national championships yet, but hey, that's what's good about playing at OU. You aren't just another number to add to a board at the end of the season, but you're actually starting a new tradition in front a very loyal and supportive fanbase. Some might critique Coale if there's not a championship banner to hang at the end of the season (and yes, I might be very disappointed if that's the case), but in a sport where very few programs turn a profit, all credit goes to Coale for building a struggling program to this point, where arenas are full and teams are expected to win.

Whitney sucked after halftime. she threw up a horrific airball at one point in the game.
