The secret is you make the tea so strong that a cup of sugar in a single glass is barely noticeable...only way to dink it: the sugar keeps ya awake util the caffeine kicks in.

Bush loved sweet tea. Said it kept his energy level high while cheerleading.

Where I'm from, sweet tea is just "tea." My mother makes it so damned sweet you lose half your teeth per glass. :D

Seriously, the tea pitcher is like 1/2 sugar. It is soooooo good.

As probably the person born the furthest north of anyone here, sweet tea is awesome.

My dad's side of the family always sweetened the pitcher of tea, whereas my mom's side never did.

My mom won the battle in our household, telling my dad that her kids' teeth are not going to be subjected to the sugar.

Mom had perfect teeth and Dad had numerous fillings.

So from a very early age I was weened on unsweetened tea.

No Delbert. That doesn't work. The sugar must be added while the brew is still hot from the steep. Its not the same to add sugar to cold tea because granulated sugar never completely dissolves in cold tea. In fact, such a thing is only forgiveable when sweet tea is not available where you happen to be dining.

Anyone ever dissolve sugar in hot water...cool it down and then add it to some unsweetened tea?

I guess. Heck, you can bake a pizza on a steel trash can lid, but WTF would anyone do that? ;)
