Q: Did Texas ever offer you a football scholarship?

Griffin: They did, but it's UT, and everybody knows if you're not poppin' by your sophomore year, you're not gonna go there. They came in. They didn't even talk to me. They went to my coach and put a scholarship on the table and said they'd take me as an athlete. But I'd already talked to my coach and said I wanted to be a quarterback, and so anybody who wanted me for something else, it didn't matter.

Well, that's interesting...

I'm thinking it will be really easy to root for this kid in the next few years (except when he's playing agasint OU). He decided to go with a below average team and he's sticking with his decision while trying to elevate the program. Get him a couple of decent o-linemen and we could be reading "Baylor upsets so-and-so" in the papers more often.

Would love to see Baylor have a great year. Griffin seems like a fine young man.

Apparently some around here have already forgotten the disrespectful comments he made about OU after we beat him up for 60 minutes last fall.

He made some comments about how OU's defense wasn't as good as people think. I don't have a problem with him thinking that but to say that kind of thing after his team got shellacked was pretty stupid. They were held to 269 yards of offense and he got his clock cleaned a couple of times. Hopefully he'll learn to say the right things or at least keep his mouth shut.

Robert Griffin after OU-Baylor game

“I don’t think Oklahoma was the best defense we’ve faced, but they had a good pass defense,” Griffin said. “They brought pressure with their linebackers and with their defensive linemen coming off blocks. My job is to make them miss, and a couple of times I didn’t.”

Seems to me that widescreen forgot what he read.

Well, my apologies to Griffin. I knew I had seen the comment but I had attributed it to Griffin. I finally found the quote and it was actually Kendall Wright who said it:

Griffin only went 11-for-26 passing against a Sooners defense that freshman receiver Kendall Wright called "not as good as everybody thinks they are."

Wasn't Kendall Wright a former verbal commit to us before he signed elsewhere or were just in the runnin for his sig?
