So I've decided to add a premium channel to my cable service. I'm deciding between HBO. I think HBO has better boxing, but Showtime puts on some great fights as well, especially when they buy some of the international fights for special events. I love Dexter and Weeds, so it seems like Showtime would be better there, but I've heard some of the HBO shows are pretty great as well. Any testamonials for either channel.

HBO has a nasty habit of just randomly ending their shows with no conclusion.

Rome and Deadwood come to mind.

I'm not happy with them for it.

I'd go showtime. The shows are better and they have much more pron.

I have HBO and I wish I had showtime.

The only shows worth a crap on HBO right now are East Bound and Down, and True Blood. Though Big Love has a pretty big following, it's just never held my interest.

I have it, and it doesn't provide live world championship boxing,

Showtime does have some fine middleweight/cruiserweight bouts from time to time.
I would not be surprised to see HBO get in on the MMA game in the near future, boxing ain't what it used to be unless Lennox Lewis is involved.

Or you could skip buying HBO and Showtime and just watch all the shows from both channels for free on the internet.

Where is this internet you speak of.

I have HBO and like it for Maher and the inevitable new series.
In Treatment is great and I hear good things about East Bound and Down.

Seems whichever channel I have, the other one looks better.

You could always go the iTunes route. Depending on how many series you feel like watching it's still a little less.

The ability to watch Boxing live is the driving force in all of this. I'm a season behind on most of the shows I watch because of the DVD lag. Given that the fights on each network are close enough to approximate each other, the quality of a original series is serving as the tie-breaker. Otherwise, I am going with the awesomeness of Gus Johnson calling fights.

I have both, but I really only watch the "shows" on HBO. Big Love and Eastbound and Down are the only two I follow right now. True Blood is a good vampire series, but it's in 2nd season production, so if it's like the Sopranos, the next season should premier sometime in 2016.

I say HBO.

I'm going to say HBO, also.

I'm eternally ticked at Showtime for creating one of the all-time greatest premium channel series' in the history of premium channel series' then unceremoniously cutting it off at the knees. "Huff" was the most awesomest EVAR!

Actually, I'm just as pizzed at HBO for giving John From Cincinatti the axe but HBO's boxing is definitely better.

Both do a fantastic job of showing the same crap 47 times a month.

The Kirkland fight was pretty good, guy has some talent.

I hope they stick him in with Angulo. That would be a hell of a fight. Although, it would strange to root for an Austinite.
