That "Norman, OK" sure looks funny with those LA's, Chicago's, Vegas's....

I saw U-2 at Lloyd Noble in the summer of 1982 (or 1983). U-2 was not so well known back then but still popular enough to fill about 4,000 - 5,000 seats. They had the stage set up in such a way that the band was closer to the audience and seating was restricted to a section of the arena.

Bono was all over the place - literally. He climbed the speakers, walked into the audience and to the top of the stairs through the audience - singing the whole time. It was a great show.

IMO U-2 peaked in the early 80's at least as far as my tastes. I'm impressed they are still around over 25 years later. Another band I thought was as good was the Skids out of Scotland and they didn't make it past 1984.

Best part of the article:

The show, announced to be one week after a performance at Dallas Cowboys Stadium, likely will sell out fast if it happens, especially with Internet presales causing a stir. But Stoops isn't worried about tickets.

"I'm sure I could get some," he laughed.

Bob is a f*cking pimp.

Bono should let Bob sing with him IMO.

More power to Bono and company. I still like em, just not as much as I did back in the days when the Boz roamed Owens Field. To be fair I can't think of any rock group that has turned out its best material with band members over aged 40 then those same bands did when they were in their 20's.

You won't get a large audience catering to my musical taste that's for sure.

The Ticketmaster web site says something about an "OU/SMG Presale" that starts next Tuesday. Is there a chance that season ticket holders get first dibs or something?

bri
4/7/2009, 05:21 PM
Doubtful. The venue's management usually does a pre-sale as well as the artist's website; SMG is the same management team that runs events at BOK and the Spirit Bank Event centers.

4/7/2009, 05:23 PM
U2 fan club gets first dibs, i believe

Yeah, the order will go:

U2.com members
SMG mailing list members
Everyone else

That would be the Athletic Department, correct? I know it's beyond wishful thinking that the OU community might get first dibs, but you never know.

Hate to say it, but Larry > u2.

I wouldn't pay a dollar to see either one of them, but if I had to go to one or the other I'd take worn out redneck humor over monotonous strumming on guitars while some no-singing hack in blue blocker shades tries to imitate nails on a chalkboard.

An employee who voluntarily retires in an at-will employment situation in exchange for a promise of a lifetime pension has been held to hold no contractual rights in said exchange, as there is no forbearance by the employee-he has no right to continue to work. Therefore, the court has found that there was no consideration.

However, if the employee reasonably relied on the company's promise to provide a pension, the concept of promissory estoppel can be (and was) used to justify damages against the employer.

Now THAT's retarded.

Worked 4 me.

I did. We're gonna pass. Something about having to jump through hoops really turned me off on this one. Matter of fact...the ticket scalping deal really hacks me off. Always has. The old days of folks having to stand in line was better IMO. Auto-dialers will have me watching concerts in the comfort of my living room. I don't need to stand in puke of the folks who passed out before U2 went on stage to enjoy their performance. I've seen many a band. I get a kick out of small venues anyway. When the Stones came to Norman...it was way to structured. If I'm gonna cough up huge bucks for a show...I want to have a beer and be treated like an adult. Screw this.

I understand the NCAA rule on beer for football.

Memorial Stadium wasn't built for concerts anyway.

I think we might try to fly somewhere to see them later anyway.
