He got a citation for peeing in public last week.

Any chance this could get him disciplined?

could lead to him being put on the sex offender list depending on how they proceed with the charges. (stupid law)

I could see some form of punishment coming down on him, but not a major suspension or anything like that. Though he better not do anything else stupid.

I think the sex offender charge is no longer part of peeing in public. The law used to have a huge umbrella over some pretty stupid stuff including peeing in public.

the only time one should pee at the Mont is if you see a $43,000 Yukon parked outside.

For the first few posts, I thought this thread was kidding.

So... Cops will, honest-to-God, take the time to cite you for public urination -- and not simply because it's one more charge to add to, say, public intoxication, resisting arrest, etc?

I'm sorry, but one of several possibilities must be true:

1) There are too many cops in Norman.
2) There isn't enough crime in Norman.
3) The cops aren't good enough at locating the crime in Norman.

Now, I'm not saying I'm a big fan of public urination -- as an American, I find it highly European, and therefore disgusting and sort of weird. However, all by itself, it sure doesn't seem like a crime worth "rooting out". Hell, were I to be an officer of the law and I happened upon someone doing such a thing, I think I'd prefer to pretend I didn't notice.

Guess to put it another way: Who the hell walks TOWARDS that?

I agree that there are too many cops in Norman. Getting pulled over in a speed trap would make you a lifelong Norman PD hater too. Oh, and then there was that incident where I allegedly did a rolling stop out of a parking garage. I will say to the grave that I DID stop... then when they pulled me over and I didn't want to block a main road so I pulled into a side road, they said that I also didn't stop at that stop sign when I pulled over. They must have known how bullsh!tty that was, because they just gave me a warning.

I love the police in general, but not in Norman. They have extreme ticket quotas to meet (any neighboring police department will verify this) and will pull you over for doing 26 mph in a 25 mph zone... complete with ticket!

I think it's because OU has their own police department that leads to this over-policing problem. If Norman and OU had combined forces instead of everyone having their own chiefs, captains and such, perhaps there wouldn't be so much over-ticketing.

Argh, you got me all on a tangent :D Seriously, if you haven't gotten a ticket in Norman, no matter how law abiding you are, you will. Be prepared for the phony pullover next time you're catching a game or whatever. I don't hate the officers in Norman, because I know they're just following their instructions. It's police management and leadership that have dropped the ball on this.

I was at a baseball game at L. Dale Mitchell about 15 years ago.

We were sitting on the left field berm.

A couple of drunk a-holes had brought along a powerful bullhorn with which to harass opposing batters and outfielders.

Game officials got annoyed at the bull horners, and when the drunken a-holes started using naughty words, the local po-po moved into the trees behind us -- to await the opportunity to witness said a-holes using naughty words over their sand-blastingly loud bull horn. Then they would use their SWAT team training and swoop in......

Fortunately for the a-holes, they managed to control themselves in the face of the OUPD onslaught, and eventually left early.

Too bad for the really nice guy, pretty quiet guy too, sitting next to.

He proceeded to enter the said trees to relieve himself, whereupon he was arrested for "indecent exposure" (despite the fact that he was hidden in the trees), and actually hauled dowtown.

He did make it back in time for the 8th inning, though, so that was good.

I asked one of Box's frat bros about this deal. He said it was Box and some frats in a alley @ 2 am. 3 or 4 cops come up on them, while they are all taking a leak. Cops kind of laugh when all the dudes start walking away but one cop, allegedly with a $hit eating grin on his face, tells Box, "Ok Box, let me see your ID". Frat bros just walked off.

Plusses and minuses to being a OU football player.

It's police management and leadership that have dropped the ball on this.

I grew up in Norman, and now live in Houston, so I feel like I have a fair handle on the 5.0 situation. In Norman there are OK Highway Patrol, Norman Cops, OU PD, and County Sheriffs. In most towns, as I understand it, the university police only have jurisdiction on campus, but because OU is apparently a training ground for federal officers, or some such BS, they have jurisdiction throughout the town. So, when you combine the excessive number of police in Norman with the quotas they have, you get over zealous cops with the "not on my block" mentality. In a city with real crime, like Houston, as long as you're not firing your AK out the window while you roll the stop sign, you're generally OK. I hate going back to Norman because of this and will likely never move back. Going 5 over in a 50 shouldn't get you a ticket, but try it on Highway 9 and you'll get busted.

In fairness, I'm sure the vast majority of Norman Cops are very cool and friendly, but they haven't been in my experience. Maybe it's mostly because I spend too much time on the wrong side of the law or whatever, but I feel like they're always out to get me. The BS speed traps and checkpoints only support that theory though.
