View Full Version : Limbaugh invites Obama to show for debate

Rush to pay ALL costs for bringing Obama to show, even buying the Wagyu Kobe beef the president is so fond of. Rush will fly Obama in his own jet, etc etc. If Obama can't/won't come, Rush will debate Obama's chosen flunky, such as Biden, Emanuel, Carville, whomever. haha. This will be fun to follow.

Wagyu Kobe beefWagyu is a breed of cattle, Kobe is a region in Japan. The Whitehouse serves local and sustainable food at the request of Michelle Obama, so it would have been American Wagyu beef. The Kobe method for producing beef is stringent, so you will find "Kobe-style" American Wagyu on the menu, but it's quite unlikely you will find an actual piece of Kobe beef in an American kitchen.

This will never happen, Obama has nothing to gain from this type of debate. The president would never be allowed to fly on Rush' plane either, it just don't happen that way.

I would love to see it happen but it ain't gonna! just sayin.

Rush knows the debate won't happen so it's a good stunt. Rush doesn't debate anyway he holds forth with opinions (and is quite entertaining IMO). If a debate actually took place I don't think Rush would do very well. Rush isn't used to a 2 way dialog where he isn't controlling the mike. Obama on the other hand is used to talking out of both sides of his mouth like any good politician.

it'll turn out like Operation Chaos.....nothing really happens and Rush talks about it for 2 months. The more important thing is it's Rush's way to give the populist wing of the GOP some pull with all the "East Coast Financial Elites" or "Yankee Bankers" who actually do run the party (but are concerned by their ability to maintain stewardship after the last 8 years and the current "rancor" among the rank and file voter west of the Appalachians)....by staging the non-event (the challenge) he seems like the only cat with the man-stones to stand up to Obama and defend the sacred principles of "the true conservatism".

Actual in a lot of really fine dining restaurants they will have it flown in; however, it is usually upwards of $100 per ounce.

If you say he did well on Koppel I can't disagree as I didn't see the show. However, with all due respect I would have to question the objectivity of the opinion of a poster with the name "Rush Limbaugh" in his name as to how Rush actually did.

I enjoy listening to Rush and watching O'Rilley when I get the chance but neither has particularly impressed me with their debating skills when the other side gets a fair chance to speak. Both are very good entertainers and help get another perspective out there.

Operation "Rushbo" (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/19596.html)

I think they are actually making a big mistake. Rush was unpopular of late because the donks never liked him, and a lot of the pubs thought he was too soft on W. That isn't the case with Obama in office.

If they think giving Rush power is going to be a good thing, they have obviously forgot how popular he was with a dem in office.

When did you see a debate with Limbaugh, and what makes you insinuate he wouldn't let a debate opponent make the full point? On his talk show, he encourages liberals to call in, and always lets them make their points. In fact, the libs who call in usually try to keep Rush from making his point. But, you really knew that, didn't you?

The whole point here is being missed.

Carville and Begala (sp) took a popularity poll of conservative politicans back in october (this also happened during Clinton and Carville recommended that Clinton back off which he did) They discovered that Rush popularity numbers were the lowest with 20-40 year olds so Obama is taking him on personally. ( not smart).

They have deemed him the defacto leader of the conservative party. THUS Rush is responding in kind (and it is a joke. Of course Rush knows Obama would never do it.) He is just making fun of the tactics of the left.

If as some say here that "Rush is irrelevant" Then the Pres of the United States could surely find something more constructive to do. Like plan a dinner dance for Chavez.

The Limbaugh Liability

How Rush is making the GOP the party of wimps.
Mar 4, 2009

Rush Limbaugh, the man who did more than anyone else to create the modern Republican brand in the 1990s, is now destroying it. Everyone knows he has "jumped the shark" culturally—become a black-shirted joke even as he dominates the headlines. But it's worse than that for Republicans. Limbaugh has taken the great GOP calling card—toughness—and shredded it. The party of Lincoln is in danger of becoming the party of Jell-O.

Witness the specter of party leaders from Georgia Rep. Phil Gingrey to South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford to Republican Party chairman Michael Steele all issuing craven apologies to Limbaugh after uttering the truth, which is that Rush's rhetoric is "ugly" and that he was wrong to say he hoped President Obama would fail. The monster the GOP collectively created—Rush's "dittohead" army of conservative listeners—makes life miserable for anyone who dares criticize the Great Bloviator. By enforcing right-wing political correctness, the dittoheads are making their party leaders look weak.

Strength, of course, has been the great, well, strength of the GOP. Starting with reactionary vitriol directed at the New Deal (echoed today) and extending through the Cold War, Republicans have long had the advantage of looking and sounding more muscular than Democrats. For most of the last century, conservatives have been depicted as "rock-ribbed" and liberals as "whiny."

The problem became especially acute in the 1970s, when former U.S. Navy Lieutenant Jimmy Carter was turned into a girlie man. An editor jokingly entitled a Boston Globe editorial about Carter “More Mush From the Wimp” and it accidentally ran in the paper. This symbolized public attitudes toward liberals, and the caricature paved the way for Ronald Reagan's 1980 victory and the 1994 GOP takeover of the House of Representatives.

Limbaugh was a key player in that takeover. For two decades, he has provided a daily three-hour national advertisement for the GOP specifically and the conservative movement in general. Because most mainstream media types in Washington and New York don't listen, they never fully understood how big Rush had become.

But nothing lasts forever. Rush's audience remains huge, with a weekly audience of more than 20 million, and will stay large for as long as he broadcasts. If his listeners can forgive him sending his poor housekeeper into a parking lot to score drugs for him, they will forgive anything. But these folks no long represent the American mainstream. In fact, while 28 percent of Americans still identify themselves as Republicans, 29 percent call themselves independents. Plenty of the indies might still be listening to Rush, but they don't take their marching orders from him anymore. To them, he's just another entertainer.

When Obama first mentioned Limbaugh in a meeting with Republicans during his second week in office, he was chastised for elevating him in a way that didn't befit a president. But it quickly became clear that any contest between Barack and Rush was not really a contest at all—and that this is a fight the president is happy to have. The president's popularity is in the 60s, and the entertainer's, according to internal Democratic polling, is in the 20s. So Rahm Emanuel and Robert Gibbs are now piling on, describing Limbaugh as the "intellectual force" and "de facto chairman" of the party.

It works. And it will keep on working until enough Republicans grow a spine. When they show enough guts to ignore the thousands of calls and e-mails from dittoheads, maybe they'll get their party—and their self-respect—back.

that's where you are wrong, 85. i hate to break the "you don't listen" strongarm you think proves otherwise implausible points.

before the election final Rush talked up conservatives as "willing to reach across the aisle" and it was the "liberals" who wouldn't play ball. NOW, Rush's partisan angle is "partisan means standing up for what you believe". and the dems are making america un-america and you can't stop it.

"Obama says the opposite of what he means, it's Orwellian." an interesting black=white move from Rush since the Bush administration (hey hey Cheney and Rummy's "unknown unknowns") really had that one going strong. "liberate Iraq" means "destroy the infrastructure" so Halliburton can rebuild it.

"Obama loves the teleprompter and talks pretty but doesn't have substance (except saying the opposite of what he means)": a classic Socratic critique of "rhetoricians". Rush is every bit the so-called rhetorician as Obama. talks pretty, but platitudes may fire up the masses....but how far do they really go. the problem is since you "agree" with Rush, you don't see the artifice.

Because elections have consequences. Wonder how ole Norm is feeling about the 900 millions buck the messiah just signed over to Hamas.

Seriously, they are both socialists. Empirical evidence pretty much confirms that socialism is the best way to create equal misery for all. American Capitolism has been successful thus far. To dump what has worked for somethign that is proven not to work just simply seems stupid.Check the glittering generalities at the door, what differs you as a Rush cheerleader from a Chomsky or Moore cheerleader?

I love the circular logic.

Rush is awesome, and if you've ever listened to his show you'd know that
If you don't like Rush, you've never listened to his show
If you provide specific examples of having listened to the show, they're out of context or liberal talking points.
Therefore, if you don't think Rush is awesome you haven't listened to his show.

Not lately, it doesn't rain too much here. ;) And there are days when advisories have to be issued for smog. Just not too often, fortunately. But a beautiful day today, definitely...though I'm not ready for the warm-up we're having.

Some people have a frighteningly irrational fear of Rush Limbaugh. The only way I would "fear" the big old fat bag of wind was if I was a roast beef sandwich.

If so then why doesn't your BOY pay attention to something other than Limbaugh. So irrelevant that the most powerful man in the world spends his days trying to denounce him whil kissing Hamas ***. Clearly you have never listened to the man, and don't come back saying you have. Stay in that utopia being detroyed by the dems and the girly man governator. California is really showing how much wisdom there is on the left coast. No cussing now.First off, I don't have a "Boy." Obama's not my "Boy." He's my President. I hope he succeeds for all our sakes, but I disagree with him on many issues.

As for Rush Limbaugh, he's irrelevant. His views are dying out. His hate mongering is tired and worn. And his listening audience is slipping into a deep minority who no longer speak for the majority of Americans. The sad thing is watching them cry and scream and wail and kavetch as their mighty power is slowly, but permanently, taken away from them.

I think it's funny that you think I haven't listened to the man. I went through a phase in the early 90's where I listened to him all the time. I learned what he thought. And then he repeated himself...over...and over...and over...and over...and over...and over...and I got FREAKIN' BORED. Now he's just unoriginal, unintelligent, hate filled and, much to my dismay, openly espousing TRAITOROUS thoughts towards our nation. I won't support a traitor.

As for California. We're doing fine. I'm not moving any time soon, because I'm doing fine. I love all the doom and gloom you try to claim Cali is in. Shoot, according to you, we're a week away from some kind of Mad Max society. LOL Yeah...you just keep tellin' yourself that, Pally.

So is this idea. It would be like OU asking Mack Brown to come speak in Norman at Owen Field on his views of the results of last season's BCS breakdown and tiebreakers for the Big 12 Championship invite... while one of our very own SF.com posters serves as host.

An audience would turn out for it, sure, but only to throw oranges at Mack (or those cockroach UT fans that turn up everywhere, including at OU), while the SF.com host of honor asks questions like "What was the score of the UT-Tech game? ANSWER THE QUESTION! We're not moving forward in this presentation until you ANSWER MY QUESTION! WHAT WAS THE [email protected] SCORE, MACK?!"

It is amusing to picture such an exchange, but for Rush to propose such an idea to make himself feel better when he knows there's no chance in hell that it will happen is ridiculous.

exposing Obama's unwillingness to answer tough questions from anyone.

This statement alone answers exactly why this would never happen - Rush's audience and Rush himself have already written Obama off and would only use such a "debate" as an opportunity for "exposing" Obama... much like a presentation of Mack Brown at Owen Field would only be used as an opportunity for Mack to look foolish and get oranges thrown at him.

The only attribute to this challenge I see is for Rush to feel smug about his position... and his main audience to retort how cowardly or unwilling Obama is to accept such a challenge when we all know there would be no chance for Obama to succeed in getting his "thinking and doing" across.

On that note, let's reverse the question: Al Franken has called Rush Limbaugh "a big fat idiot" on the cover of one of his books. If Al called Rush out to be debated on Al's show with Al serving as the host and moderator and controller of airtime and such, do you foresee Rush going on Air America (does that even still exist?) to Al's show to be a guest?

It's not that I don't think Rush would let Obama present his ideas. I just think Rush's track record of Obama criticism works against him. Obama has nothing to gain from appearing on Rush's show.

Last time I checked he wasn't appearing on liberal radio stations that would toss him softball questions. The only person who would win if he appeared would be Limbaugh's ratings. The American people, Obama, and no one of merit would gain a SINGLE thing out of the appearance. The Far Right would say Obama looked like a fool regardless of the outcome, the leftist would say Obama looked poised against Limbaugh regardless.
