figure out the password I foolishly entered on my wireless router a couple years ago?

Yes, I admit it. I forgot it. It hasn't been a problem because the laptops and stuff I had at the time remember it. But I can't link-up new stuff because I forgot the danged password.

Is the only fix going to be buying a new wireless router?

Is your password selection based off of any sort of related criteria? I have a system that usually allows me to figure out what I selected with a little effort.

Hit the master reset to bring the router back to manufacturers settings then reconfigure it.

And if you don't have the manual any longer be sure to find out what the default password is from the device website first. It's usually admin or "leave it blank".

Thirded. And yes, WPA2 is a better alternative to WEP certainly.

Oh, and when you do change the password, make sure to write it down.

you could just tape it to the bottom of the thing. it's not like physical access is an issue with a reset button

Did you enter an email, and did it send you a confirmation to that email? Try doing a search on your old emails to see if it's hiding there. I keep a "junk" hotmail email address just for such things. It keeps messages forever, and I've found old passwords there.

He could break it open with a hammer and look inside to see it.
