Anyone else hear him on with BBJ this morning? He said he's never thought Leach was the saviour of Tech football. Stated that others have had better seasons.
Has Tech ever in China been ranked on a consistent basis? Did Leach himself not change the landscape of the conference?

Seriously coach?

Correction: he said all week long that Tech was being stupid and that it's extremely difficult to win in Lubbock.

I pick of PJ a lot, but he is on the same page as us on this issue.

I got my research on and found out that yes, they WERE in fact a top-five team!

... 33 years ago :D

I followed oupride's link and from those stats, figured the 1976 team that ended with two losses would have to be in the AP poll. As it turns out, they were unranked in the preseason, but ended at No. 13.

They started the season 8-0 and peaked at No. 5. After the first loss, the dipped to nine, then the second loss dropped them to the final spot, 13.

It appears that they only ranked 20 teams back then, so they debuted as No. 20 on Sept. 21 when they were 2-0. Their No. 5 ranking came on Nov. 9 and Nov. 16, when they were 7-0 and 8-0, respectively.

They even had a single first place vote!

I am not sure who they played, but it appears they lost on the week of Nov. 23 (Texas A&M, hmm?) and their bowl game.

Texas Tech: A football tradition that only the Internet is aware of. :D

no, that's not a correction. his mantra was obvious in the fact that he doesn't think Leach has done enough to "make him get outta his seat."

by and large.

Like I said, it's easy to pick on someone who changes his mind and theories according to who's winning and not... but I listen to the SA everyday, being that my two coworkers are aggy and Giants fans which plays right into Pat and Al. They made a point of saying every single day that Meyers is a fool for playing God with what he's got and that Lubbock was "an incredibly difficult place to win" on a consistent basis. They had numerous callers call in and echo these sentiments.

What Pat and Al WERE wrong on, and no surprise here, is they both had "pretty good sources" saying Leach was out by Friday.

I filed that under Pat Jones saying Texas doesn't stand a chance against us in 2008, Texas isn't a top ten team in 2008, Bradford will have a sophomore slump, Bradford's gone for the NFL, Jason White couldn't cut it in the pros (hello? Two reconstructive knee surgeries does not a NFL QB make), OSU's got OU's number (every other year we get this one), Missouri's the real deal (pffft) and Florida beat OU because they was just plumb faster (nevermind the 5:2 turnover issue).

To use a Stoopsism: "At the end of the day," Traber, Eschback, Jones, Jerkens and Blevins are all the same... they can talk, but they really don't know anything other than vague details. "I have a souce" is usually followed by "but I won't mention names" simply means "I want to start a rumor and get people to listen and talk."

I love seeing Texas at 5-5-1 and Baylor at 7-3-1. Makes me happy in my pants.

Oh, and a nice outing by TCU...0-11.

I did like what I heard yesterday when "Texas George" was talking about john Chiles moving from QB to WR was like a Paul Thompson move and Pat said "Chiles is a better football player than Thompson, George."
Really? Last I heard PT had a ring playing QB, Chiles got benched for succccing.

PJ was my favorite aggie coach. I almost felt sorry for him that year they almost beat OU when they had Sanders and co. My mind changed after the Hart Lee Dykes thing blew up and WE got contaminated in the fallout . . .

That's not really accurate. Chiles never "got benched" in that he was never the starter. Colt's just too good of a QB. We'll never really know how good Chiles would or wouldn't have been at QB because he never got any substantial playing time except in garbage time.
