Don't hear or see much about Joe Washington's pro career, but here's a nice look at it...

And once again I will say it: Joe Washington was not the best running back I have ever seen, but he was without question the most exciting running back I have ever seen.

On so many runs there would be a collective groan from the stands as he was stopped - followed by a roar as he somehow came out of it.

It makes me wish I was alive at that time. And the Barry days, and Bud's.

My uncle would tell me stories about seeing Barry in the airport (during the cowboy years). And people would whisper to each other and point at him, and he said Barry would just give this Hardass frown back!!! What a competitor.

That guy and Barry Sanders had someof the greatest wow moments you could ever watch in both the pros and college.

Joe suffered a knee injury in his first training camp with the Chargers and I don't think he was ever quite as quick as in college. The pros figured out pretty quickly that he had great hands as a receiver - something he couldn't show out of the wishbone. I was a freshman at OU in '74, so i got to watch him play for 2 years. I remember everyone in the stadium stood up whenever he got the ball.
