Who would you choose? Tim Griffin of ESPN recently selected his "Mount Rushmore" for OU. Would yoy choose the same four to represent the Sooners or someone else? (http://myespn.go.com/blogs/big12?tag=oklahoma%20sooners) You have to scroll down a ways, and having to choose the fourth face is a tough pick after the obvious three.

Can't believe Lil Joe Washington wasn't mentioned in the paragraph where they named off Selmon Brothers, Billy Vessels, Adrian Peterson, Jason White, etc.

Kurt Burris has to get a look. Finished second in the Heisman as a lineman. Alan Ameche won that year as a running back at Wisconsin.

The "Killer B's": Benny (Owen), Bud, Barry, and Bob.Exactly.OU has had a ton of great players but these four men are the masterminds who built ,maintained THE BIG RED MACHIME.Bennie built the stadium, established the program on a long-term basisand got OU its first national notice by defeating the legend Alonzo Stagg and U of Chicago.Bud as we all know built OU into the Big Red Machine,Barry brought OU back to the top and kept us there in his tenure,Bob completed PROJECT PHOENIX( bring us up out of the ashes) in TWO years and has kept OUr rightful place near the summit since.

Benny, Bud, Barry and Bob, with Bud going in first.

Is it alright to exclude all of the Sooner greats who have graced Owen Field?

Must have been 30 years ago I read an article that said, "In college football, the players move on after four years, and the real stars are the coaches."

If you are giving out long-term awards in college football, they almost have to go to the coaches. Few players really get to put a long-term stamp on a program, because they just don't get to stay long enough.

Take any player on that list, or any list, of Sooner greats, and erase their name from the Sooner record books. Most cases, those teams would have still been pretty good.

Erase those four coaches, and the Sooners would have been something unrecognizable. We might have still been good, or even great (John Blake not-withstanding), but we would not have been what we were, and are.

OU has the unique problem of needing more than four heads to fill on its Mount Rushmore :D
