I'm all for good sportsmanship, but this goes too far:

Belotti is an idiot and I dont see any way this would ever pass...I mean seriously, I guy celebrates or gets caught up in the game and loses points for it?

I do like the fact of putting the punters in a tackle box and if they rugby style it...you can light him up...obviously not too hard though...dont wanna get thrown out for hitting someone too hard in football!!

"There was consensus approval by coaches on all levels on the clock discussions," Bellotti said. "I think the clock rules worked out as we thought they would. It may have cost teams four or five plays per game, but that's what we were expecting."

Of course this didn't slow down all teams ;)

The committee also approved a provision allowing both teams to wear colored jerseys in games when there is a clear contrast in color and only if both teams agrees. The agreement is also subject to conference approval.

Why not, since the committee chair is the coach of Oregon. Seems like an issue they would only care about.

Personally I've always felt that the taunting as-you-score should be a during-the-play penalty. I think its great to celebrate a score with your team afterwords (and even with the fans although the NCAA disagrees), but there's just no point in taunting during a score, and there's no disincentive to make it stop. Spot of the -15 yards. That would put a nice end to that.

USC-UCLA is the main reason for this.

Would be cool to see an OU/saxeT game where we both wore our home jerseys though.

Also like the rule about limited the protective area for punters.

I think there should be stricter penalties on hits leading with the helmet. The hit on Iggy in the MNC game comes to mind, as well as 90% of the hits that USC delivers.

im not against the proposed taunting rule. moral of the rule: dont act like a jackass before youve even scored!

plus it would affect USC more than anyone and I'm all for that :D

Hey Mike Bellotti, how about a rule about paying off homer refs?

Of course! It gives even more opportunity for PAC-10 officials to ensure PAC-10 victories.

50 yd FG as time runs out for 1 pt win.

[PAC10 official] Excessive celebration on non-PAC10 team. FG negated 15 yd penalty. Replay the down.[/PAC10 official]

i'm with ouflak.....it would end the showboating....what kills me is when the player that scores walks or runs into the endzone untouched and he showboats like it was all him....hmm... seems like to me someone had to do some blocking for that to happen...........its a culture issue though and some of them will never get it

I agree with Bellotti 100%.

You taunt during the play and it should be an Unsportsmanlike Penalty from the spot of the foul.

Maybe I'm being guilty of Good Ol' Days syndrome, but I get sick of watching some of these stupid celebrations.

You know what was so great about Larry Fitzgerald's catch and TD run in the Super Bowl a few weeks ago?

Simple.

No TD dance or celebration. He tossed the ball to the ref, slapped a few hands, and went back to the sideline.

What a f***ing concept!!!

On a side note, I'm still trying to figure out how the hell 7 officials missed Santonio Holmes using the ball as a prop in his homage to LeBron. Seems Arizona could have really used those 15 yards on the ensuing kickoff, but I digress.

And Socrefbek, I hardly think the situation you describe would ever come to pass. What Bellotti is railing against is openly taunting your opponent. Even when the Grammatica's were taking the NFL by storm with their ridiculous celebrations, at no point did they ever taunt the opposing team with their celebration.

If anything, they were taunting the team doctors... "See if you can fix my knee after THIS celebration..."

"Teams would not be penalized, Bellotti said, for a group celebration after the score because the NCAA wants to emphasize the team concept, not individuals."

So what Georgia did to FU a couple of years ago would be acceptable?

How about putting an end to the "This is my religious message" and the "Alice Cooper/Road Warrior" eye black. I don't mind the area code of where you're from but the only message I'd want to see on a player's eye black is either "Hi Mom" or "Hi Dad".

I have always liked how Barry Sanders acted after he scored........handed the ball to the ref, knowing he would be back.

So under these new rules Texas' final TD against Ohio St. Doesn't count and we lose the game. Sounds like a great plan

yeah what we don't want is a ref to decide the game on a freakin "judgement" call. Yeah, yeah I know holding is also a "judgement" call but celebration doesn't affect the play in question...
Here's a suggestion... neither team score at all and just meet at half time and end of the game at the middle of the field and pray. No one gets their feelings hurt that way and would naturally lend itself to good sportsmanship.

I've never understood penalties for celebration.

It's a ****ing GAME!
