This is a terrible idea, but it was an empty gesture on Bush's part since nothing was going to happen without Congressional approval which wasn't going to happen.

We should be drilling everywhere...everywhere. I'd tear up Yosemite if necessary.

Just because you live in that godless wasteland called Waco doesn't mean you've gotta go around tearing down all the beautiful nature that the rest of the US has.

Good for Obama. That drilling program was moronic.

shouldn't the low oil prices be pushing the oil companies into R&D in other alternatives?

seems we are getting some more time to develop other energy sources before we absolutely have to

Yosemite is just one of the most naturally beautiful places on the face of the planet. That's all.

Well, I guess this means less tax revenue to the Federal Government from the oil companies, thus less money for the welfare state. Oh, my bad, I forget that we will just print whatever money we need.

They need to construct a fence along the entire eastern boarder of California and make sure that everyone who is there stays there. Let em go bankrupt and then can figure out how to pay their bills. Some people might learn some common sense.

Do you know what directional drilling is and how it works?

I have no problem with protecting parks, however directional drilling done properly can protect them. It's already in use, or has been used near certain sanctuaries. The Audubon Society actually earns royalties (an undlisclosed amount last I checked) off the Rainey Reserve.

no, it doesn't. When oil remains low, American Consumers don't care about alternative energy because well, gas is a ready available commodity and it's generally cheaper then the initial investment into other energy sources.

It's also not as cost effective for them to look into alternative energy so the lower their budget. I have tried to explain a multitude of times that the best thing for alternative energy is high oil and gas prices.

The reason to open up those area's, or atleast some of them, is to increase domestic production and lower consumption/dependance on foreign oil. Quite frankly, the US has little hope of not being largely dependant on foreign oil since we consume so much of it and will continue to do so until forced to change. The only thing that will force this change is a hit to the pocket book.

This, I agree with. The overwhelming majority of the general public are sheep. I'm willing to bet that many people that were thinking of buying an economical car back in the summer are kicking the tires of Tahoes, Sequoyas, Suburbans etc... as I type.

i'm not saying that it would happen, more like that it wouldn't, but should

if gas stays cheap for a while they will probably cut R&D and Joe Six Pack will buy a new truck and no one will care about electric cars anymore

It's just a Springfield Armory XD-9. Maybe it has something to do with the high capacity magazines, but there is a sticker on the case that says NOT LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA.

What kind of a dent would this offshore drilling have on the global oil market? Maybe a gallon of gas would cost a few cents cheaper?

it's not about the dent on the global market, it's about slowing down how much money we spend on oil produced by countries

Ah. Yeah. That's all about magazine capacity (which is one of the dumber laws we have out here in Cali). They restricted the mag cap on my Glock, as well.

Will make a huge price difference once demand comes back, and its only a matter of time before it will.

We don't have enough supply, period.

Ole Barry Oblahma will single-handedly drive the country into a deep recession from his spending plan, because the banks will use it for bonuses and the dems will pay off the illegals, oops soon to be legals and buy off the latino and ACORN vote, will make the new deal look like a tax cut and cause energy prices to spike upward in the U.S. like we have never seen...

Probably has a magazine that has too many rounds per CA law. Something like allowing only 5 or 7 rounds per mag (maybe the 11 you mentioned)... Like any outlaw would subscribe to that law...
