Today I was inside Mabel Bassett Correctional Facility in lovely McLoud (yes, that is the correct spelling) Oklahoma. a/k/a The State Womens Prison.

Long story, defending a lady who already got four years for first degree manslaughter on a fatal carwreck, and also was sued by the decedents family.

For the record, we have waaaay too many women imprisoned in OUr state.

Also, I didn't see anyone too pretty for prison, but I saw several who looked precisely like ladies with which I share church pews, movie theaters, grocery shopping and other such mundane daily living activities.

Now here's what made me almost squirt a tear. Some group of very nice people are making it possible for children to easily send their mommies school drawings, report cards, and other such things, and shooting DVD's for return to the kiddoes of mommy gushing about same.

That's what I noticed when I visited the place last summer. And what the guards who deal with them everyday told me too. Yes some of them are just worthless human beings. But a lot of them are nice ladies who made some very bad decisions. And I was also told that about 80 percent of them are in there either directly or indirectly because of drugs (i.e. stealing or selling to support their own habit.) They're not on drugs in prison, so it makes sense that at least while they are inside they will look and act like normal, everyday people.

One guard did tell me it is true that they're all in lesbian relationships though.

I have been to Mable Bassett several times. Believe me when I say that you do NOT want to see any of the inmates involved in anything sexual. The inmates look nothing like the ones in the movies.
