I just became a Louisville fan. I just saw this on ESPN, but they haven't updated the rankings on the internet yet though.

UConn, Oklahoma 1-2 in coaches' pollComment Email Print ESPN.com

Not even top dog in its conference, Connecticut nonetheless is the nation's new No. 1 men's college basketball team.

UConn on Monday became the fifth team to be ranked No. 1 this season in the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll, receiving 28 of 31 first-place votes, with the other three going to No. 2 Oklahoma.

The Huskies (20-1 overall, 9-1 Big East) can make strides in the conference with a victory Monday night over seventh-ranked Louisville (17-3, 8-0) on ESPN (7 ET). The Cardinals and Marquette (19-2, 8-0) are the only Big East teams with unbeaten conference records.

UConn's climb in the coaches' poll marks the most changes at No. 1 since the top spot changed hands seven times during the 2003-04 season. UConn is No. 1 for the first time since March 2006 and, given that the UConn women are a unanimous No. 1 in both the coaches' and media polls, it is the sixth occasion that a school has had both programs ranked No. 1 at the same time.

Incidentally, UConn and Oklahoma are first and second in the men's and women's coaches' polls.

The only loss by the UConn men's team came against Georgetown on Dec. 29.

Big 12 leader Oklahoma (21-1, 7-0) moved up three spots from last week's rankings, while Duke (19-2) -- last week's No. 1 -- checked in at No. 3. The combination of Duke's last-second loss to Wake Forest and UConn's rout of Providence set the stage for the shakeup at No. 1.

North Carolina and Pittsburgh, both 19-2, finished off the top five. This week's rankings represent a first so-called "full house" at the top this season -- three representatives from one conference (ACC -- North Carolina, Wake and Duke) and two from another (Big East -- Pittsburgh and UConn). It's only the second time since the creation of the ESPN/USA Today poll for the 1997-98 season that two conferences had multiple teams ranked No. 1 in the same season. In 2000-01, the ACC (Duke, North Carolina) and Pac-10 (Stanford, Arizona) each had two.

After sixth-ranked Wake (17-2), Louisville and Marquette held their ground at 7 and 8, with No. 9 Xavier (19-2) and No. 10 Clemson (18-2) both moving up one notch from last week's rankings.

Butler (19-1) moved to within a shout of the top 10 at No. 11, with UCLA (17-4, three spots), Purdue (17-4, four) making strong strides. The rest of the top 20: Michigan State (17-4), Memphis (18-3), Villanova (17-4), Texas (15-5), Gonzaga (16-4), Minnesota (18-3) and Syracuse (17-5).

Illinois (18-4), previously unranked Utah State (21-1), Arizona State (16-5), last year's NCAA champion Kansas (17-4) and Washington (16-5) complete the rankings. Saint Marys (18-3), Notre Dame (12-8) and Georgetown (12-8) fell out of the Top 25.

Our men and women are both #2...a feat made only slightly less impressive when you consider that UConn is ahead of us in both polls.

I think OU could take UConn in men's basketball. They're good, but I think OU is just as good as they are. Thabeet is just tall and long. He isn't that good offensively. Don't get me wrong, they have a nice set of guards, but I think with the way AJ and WW are playing right now OU would have a pretty good chance in a matchup with UConn.

I can't say the same about the women. They went to UConn earlier this season and beat us by 30. I would take a complete disaster for them not to win the NC in women's basketball this season.

Ohh and uhh tickets are still available for the game Wednesday night vs ATM.

Not high enough. We need to invite UConn to Norman so we can beat them again and have some students behind the goal say random shizzle during the free throws:

Student 1: Don't ask, don't tell!
(pause)
Student 2: Oh, I get it - GAY!

:D

We also need to play UConn in wimmins. They are not a legit undefeated team until their postseason streak includes OU. Remember 2002 (the 01-02 season) in the championship? They had defeated every opponent they faced. However, they didn't face us yet. We scared UConn fans that night and if they didn't beat us, all of their previous victories wouldn't have mattered, because it wouldn't mean a championship for the Lady Huskies... or she-dogs... or whatever they call the women's bball team.

So, screw whatever happened a few months ago, UConn must face OU again. Until they do, hold onto your No. 1 tight, because it won't matter how many games you've won come March in a single elimination tourney we call "March Madness."

UCONN and OU, in men's ball, are virtually identical, even though Blake is better than Thabeet. His best thing is that he's good at being 7'3". He has problems with stronger post men. Blake will be able to move him off the block, and then go through him if need be. While UCONN has good guards, WW and AJ have been playing better. Oh, BTW, UCONN will lose at The 'Ville tonight. Therefore, if the good guys TCB, there will be yet another #1 next week. This time, I see the #1 staying that way.

When is the last time OU has been #1 in basketball? Very likely possibility 7 days from now. Was it 89-90?

Man, we really need the wins this week. It would be so sweet to move up, but we HAVE TO WIN!

And there is no way anyone beats the UCONN wimmens. They is a machine. They've beaten everyone by at least 12, I think. And most by at least 20. That's not playing a game, that's practicing for cutting down nets.

Every team has an off-night. What did OSU allegedly do to our players before a football game? Like, drug our player's food or something?

If all else fails, there's also the Tonya Harding approach. Think the undefeated UConn knees stand a chance against a team of vicious bats?

Either these bats:

Or these bats:

Mark my words, UConn's undefeated knees will taste its first blood, and then it's first defeat!

To be fair, they have already beaten OU by 28 this year.

Remember 2002 (the 01-02 season) in the championship? They had defeated every opponent they faced. However, they didn't face us yet.

Actually, they had. They beat OU by 14 in the regular season meeting that year.

BUT, OU seems to really be getting better as the season goes on.

ok, maybe I need to re-quote what you quoted: POSTSEASON.

There's no way that the team that played Tennessee last night doesn't fight against UConn. We just need to have THAT team show up and not the one that slumped in the first half for 16-0 Tenn run, or the one that showed up vs. UConn earlier this year.

The difference between our game with UT and our game versus the huskies is speed at the guard position. We did to UT exactly what Ole Miss did to us a couple years back. UCONN has much more speed at the guard position, so we just have to play great D and hit our shots more than they do theirs. I didn't see the husky game, but we didn't have more turnovers and they didn't out-assist us... They out-rebounded us by a couple, but nothing major. The big difference was in field goal percentage. With Hand stepping up and a better handle on our D, perhaps we could defend them a bit better. Still, 28 points is an asswhipping. That's on the order of a completely different class...

OU wimmins lost to UCONN in the 6th game of the season.

I think it is very safe to say that this OU team has been a lot better and has a better grasp on what to do and how to do it now, then they did at the first of the season.
