Ok, I'm in the market for some new front loud speakers. I've narrowed my choices down to either Polk, Infinity, or JBL. Does anyone have any advice on these brands given similar products? Or any other brands/models that someone is really happy with?

I've owned all 3 brands at some point and was really happy with all 3. i still have the JBL's (since high school!) and Infinity's (still a solid bookshelf speaker). but, there's a lot of good stuff on the market today.

how much you willing to spend?

for the money - B&W. styling and FANTASTIC sound. if you're looking for HiFi playing (music), B&W can't be beat. expensive might be an understatement.

almost (possibly more) important... what do you have driving them? again, if price is not a factor, McIntosh is wonderful. you're going top pay for it, but you won't get better quality sound/power.

It depends on how much you want to spend, I am happy with my budget Polk setup (Front: R50, Center: CSR, Sub: PSW12, In-wall rears: RC65i). If I was going to spend more there are many options and 85's Paradigms are a good one and I like B&W.

..or you could just say I want to spend it all and get some Wilson Audio Alexandria (http://www.wilsonaudio.com/product/alexandria/) speakers ($135,000/pair (http://news.softpedia.com/news/One-Loudspeaker-You-Don-039-t-Meet-Everyday-Wilson-Alexandria-X-2-62667.shtml)) and add a Thor's Hammer (http://www.wilsonaudio.com/product/thor/) subwoofer ($21,000 (http://news.softpedia.com/news/21-000-For-Thor-039-s-Hammer-From-Wilson-Audio-77077.shtml)).

They dont make em like they used to. I have some Infinity IL 50's (they dont make them anymore) that have a built in 250 watt amp and 10" subwoofers in each one. They are the SHAT. You cant find speakers like this anymore. They want you to buy the subwoofer for your base.

Dude, mount them in cigar boxes and cover the boxes with wood-grain shelf paper.

I'm looking to spend about $600 for a pair. I can go a little higher if there are some that really blow my socks off.

I was thinking about either the Infinity P362 - http://shop4.frys.com/product/5223687?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

I was reading that at fry's they often go on sale for about $150.

Or the Polk TSI400 - http://shop4.frys.com/product/5614891?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

If I go with the Polks I will get $200 off of a sub.

So in that price range (I don't want to go over $800) what do you all think?

These seem nice. I'm mostly going to using the speakers for movies and very little music. When I do listen to music I typically listen to rock, which the reviews say these are not good for. I'm mostly curious how they are for movies since that is what I'll be using them for 95% of the time.

I've got a Yamaha 5.1 reciever I bought several years ago that will be driving them. I'm planning on getting a newer more powerful reciever in the next 12 months.

I stumbled across these on Newegg. I've never heard this particular model of Infinity but for $100.00 each and no freight it might be worth a chance. Do you already have a subwoofer?

+1 on Paradigm M7

If you want to bargain hunt, Level 2 at HTD.com are half that price, but you lose the midrange driver.

I've got a pair of B&Ws and love the crap out of them. On the other hand, they're not floorstanders. So really, no reason for me to mention them, other than that this is a home theater thread and I haven't posted yet.

Watermelon is delicious.

I still have my JBL's that I got in the early 90's and will never give them up. They are the best sounding speakers I have ever heard anywhere. Every once in a great while you can find a pair on Ebay for around six hundred.

I am going to be getting a sub too, which is why I was kinda leaning towards the polks ($200 off a sub).

I've listened to these Infinitys (I think at Fry's), it's the step down from the ones I'm thinking of buying, and they sounded ok, but I liked the P352's much better.

I like my Paradigm sub (10 inch woofer). If I hadn't got such a good deal with the whole 6.1 setup, I was going to order one from HSU (http://www.hsuresearch.com/). I emailed them with my room specs and the owner emailed and called me to discuss. Pretty nice service.

What do you all think of the Monitor Audio BR5's? They're similar to the Paradigm 7's. Had a listen to some today and really liked them, good sound from pretty compact speaker and decent price...

I had a pair of those!

I got them overseas in the military back in '86.

Unfortunately, the surrounds rotted out and I parted the whole lot out. I didn't know you could re-surround speakers back then.

Now, JBL, Infinity, and Polk are crap.

BTW, I own an old pair of old Infinity Kappa 8's for my mains now.
