I will make a prediction that in four years they will still be blaming the Bush admin because of their failed efforts. No one to blame but themselves, let the cannibalism begin and it WILL happen.

Yeah, I think the Patriot Act did a number on several. Allowing wiretapping, searching phone and e-mail records without warrants, permission to search private homes and businesses without the owner's knowledge or consent...

Anyway, I expect a lot of people to be fairly surprised by "Oh, you mean the government today is pretty much the same government we had yesterday, but a new guy is signing the checks? OK."

RLIMC - You probably want to read THIS DOCUMENT (http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/download/manifest.pdf) to get a good understanding of the next four years. Heck, after reading the document, you may have an entire new outlook on your government!

Or, perhaps some nice, easy reading material that will instill a better understanding of the new regime and its supporters: Enjoy this: Good Reading (http://www.newworker.org/manifesto.htm).

Actually, I believe what it says is something along the lines of 'Congress only shall declare war.'

Congress hasn't actually done that, so we're not actually at war.

Let's see, Bush believes we should just give money to the auto industry
Obama says why should we give them money unless they are willing to change to actually be competitive.

Who is the socialist again...let's give Obama a chance, the things he has said so far have been very much closer to the center than I ever expected.

Irregular measures do not include the evacuation of the Bill of Rights. You don't really believe it applies to anyone, do you?

Congress has ceded this power to the President with the War Powers Act.

We're just making a few prognostications, here, aren't we? IMO he'll stink things up in many of the ways he's promised to do. We should hope he breaks most of his promises, and does things differently than his few Senate votes indicate he will do.

The American government has an established history of playing fast and loose with habeas corpus during wartime regardless of whether a donk or pub was in office.

The American government has an established history of playing fast and loose with habeas corpus during wartime regardless of whether a donk or pub was in office.

My main objection is that there is no standing declaration of war.

Such a precedent is unfortunate, but necessary perhaps, during war.

But setting it and permitting it to stand during legal peacetime? Bad juju.

There is no right to habeus corpus. The US Constitution specifically provides for the suspension of the privilege of habeus corpus in times of war.

Wrong point. If you were japanese after pearl harbor you stood a very good chance of being severly harmed or killed due to public sentiment of the time.

While alot of Americans hated the Nazis there was a more vitrol hatred toward the japanese that still is harbored in some elderly folks even today.

Not saying it was "right" however the consequences for not doing it were more severe in the zeitgeist of the time.
