OK, not the whole computer, just the monitor of my laptop..dropped it, now the monitor does not work....the computer is 3 years old..is it worth fixing, or should I get a new one? does anyone know how much it costs to fix those?

Did the screen crack? The ribbon cable may have just got knocked off, thats a simple fix if you know someone who can take things apart and put them back together again. :D

If you have a regular desktop monitor you could hook it up to that, if you don't you can find old CRT types dirt cheap or maybe even free from someone getting rid of one...I have 3 old ones in the garage.

If it is a Dell, there is a store here in Austin called Discount Electronics (http://www.discountelectronics.com/) which has replacement screens for Dell laptops (http://www.discountelectronics.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=33). You might try G&H Computers (http://www.wesellcoolstuff.com/) on North May in The Village or USA Computer Outlet (http://www.usa-computer.com/) on North MacArthur just north of 23rd, they may be able to replace the screen or direct you to someone who can.

Three years old? Get a new one. Rule of thumb on busted computer stuff; "if it's more than two, buy new."

Look into buying a Lenovo. Their Ideapad Y series are pretty cheap, their tech support is here in the states (and rules). I've dropped mine twice on concrete with no ill effects.

Ain't that the truth! I bought a killer HP Pavillion 4 months ago for $729. I love it.

so am I :(

the laptop was in my backpack, strapped in, but I forgot to zip it..i dropped something else on the ground and when I leaned over to pick it up, my backpack fell down, so I swung it back up adn when I did it flung the laptop out.

Sadly, that's how I dropped my laptop. Both times.

Scott's right, I'm a klutz. Maybe even an uberklutz.
