I'll be glad to try it again next year. We'll do our best to be trying again next year, and we'll keep going after them, if it's all the same to everybody else.

Stoops is a great coach. No doubt about it.

Great recap. I am thoroughly impressed with what Coach Stoops does year in and year out. Is it disappointing to lose. Sure, but try being as dissappointed as him I am sure. I am hoping for another 10 year run like this one with coach Stoops!

Stoops can just as easily win the next 5 BCS games he takes us to. I can't think of one coach I would rather have coaching the Sooners.

I'm glad losing hurts this much.

If it didn't I don't know where we'd be.

First rate.

I kept hearing Dewey Cox's "beautiful ride" while I was scrolling thru that.

Awesome write up, but just one mistake, there was no bowl game in 2004. I think they called the games off or something because I remember nothing from that time period. ;)

Every year at this time I am reminded just how special that 2000 season was. And the fact it was my senior year in the Pride made it even more so to me.

One day, we will look back and think how awesome this stretch was, because I doubt it will be matched folks. I seriously doubt it can be matched at OU given how competitive CFB is now.

I wish the people who bitch would go away and let the real fans enjoy this, even if it means being disappointed once in a while.

Thank you Bob, Joe C, and Boren. Keep Big Red Rollin!!!

It's always gotta be tougher on the players that come up a little short of the ultimate prize. We the fans at least get to always say 'next year'! Nice collection there Octavian

thanks to those who sent me a message for this...really, there should've been more threads like this.

Think about it....Stoops is 109-24 in 10 years. He's lost 17 regular season games in that timespan. Two of those were the Oregon* and Texas Tech* ('05) games. Five of his 24 losses came the season after the embarrassment that was John Blake. We've lost two --2!!-- games in Norman in a decade for ***** sake.

What Stoops has put together in his first decade is simply incredible. I don't have the energy to research it all at the moment --I might later and bump this thread again --but I'd be willing to bet the accomplishments in his first 10 years are better than some of the game's all-time greats: Bryant, Bowden, Paterno, Devaney, Osborne, Spurrier...and many many others.

Wilkinson, Rockne, and Switzer come to mind as having better initial decades. Big deal. Bob is 2 wins away from being better than them too.

In the 2000s Decade, no program has won more games than Oklahoma. No program has a better winning % than Oklahoma. No program has been to more BCS games than Oklahoma. That's because of Bob Stoops.

Losing National Championship Games hurts. No doubt. But no one else can say they've been there as much as Bob. Look back on the last decade --what is (hopefully) the first in the Bob Stoops Era-- and be happy and proud.

As fans, we've had it real good...we're spoiled again.

So now Bradford, Gresham, and Co. are coming back and we're gonna shoot for it again in 2009. And that's because of Stoops too. Don't kid yourself.

We're lucky.

You got me thinking so I did some research, of some of the other great coaches in their first 10 years here is what you got...

Bobby Bowden-76-37, 1 Top 10 finish
won 1st natl title in 23rd yr(not counting coaching at howard)

Ara Parseghian- 59-35-2, 2 conf titles No top ten finishes
won 1st natl title in 15th season

Bear Bryant- 64-34-7, 1 Top 10 finish 1 conf title
won 1st natl title in 16th yr

Bob Devaney 82-18-5, no other info found
won 1st natl title in 13th yr

Tom Osborne 106-24-2, 8 top ten finsihes 4 conf titles
won natl title in 21st yr

Lou Holtz 87-28-5, 2 conf titles 4 top ten finishes
1st natl title in 16th yr(didnt count william and mary yrs)

Joe Pa 93-19, 6 top ten finishes...zero conf titles or natl titles because they were independent til 92 although before 92 he had 3 undefeated seasons that didnt merit a natl title
Won 1st natl title in 16th yr

Steve Spurrier 93-27-2, 6 conf titles 6 top ten finishes
1st natl title in 10th season

Mack Brown 69-46, 1 top ten finish No conf titles(only one conf title in 21 seasons as head coach)
won 1st natl title in 18th season as head coach

Bob Stoops 109-24, 6 conf titles 7 top ten finishes
won natl title in 2nd yr

These are the coaches I would consider the greats, if I left anyone off just let me know. I would say Coach Stoops compares favorably if not better than every single one of them. Osborne, Spurrier, and Paterno are very close, I would also say it is more difficult to dominate like Coach Stoops teams have in this day and age

*Not including champ game appearances for anyone cus BCS started so late
*Didnt include Carroll, Tressel, or Meyer cus none have been a D1 coach for atleast 10 yrs although they all compare favorably
*Didnt include Barry or Bud cus we all know what they did
