They are told that certain threads are for sooners only and they post anyway. They call us "trolls" on our board, and we do nothing!

I joined this board in Sept of 07, and I have never disrespected a fellow sooner poster, even when they attack me; but these "trolls" make up their own rules and the best we can do is start a poll to see who gets the boot.

The Selmon Brothers, Adrian Peterson, Brian Bosworth, Barry Switzer, and the other sooner legends would be appalled by the mercy and grace we are exhibited towards these heretics. Free speech doesnt apply when it comes sooner football. Have we turned into Oklahoma State and just cuddle up with a baby lamb when people disrespect us?

And I'm not stupid enough to think this is an automatic win by the Sooners...I think it's a game between two great teams. I do believe that if we play our best, we'll take home the crystal ball. If you were called a retard by a Gator fan and a mod or admin saw it, the Gator was either carded or banned, depending on his other posts. Trust me. But if nobody saw it (including in a reputation comment), like Rhino says, report it.

And for the record, the poll was for giggles, and I think it WAS a fun little diversion and even changed the tone coming from some of the dudes that were up for vote. In fact, on that one I pretty much stacked the deck AGAINST banning. We might do it again if the right situation presents itself.

However, banning of an opposing team, rule breaking troll doesn't require a poll.

I am a mod on a Texas motorcycle forum that has grown greatly in the past 5 years that I have been on there. It is a much more "family oriented" forum (which if you visit some other motorcycle forums that is usually not the case) and that irritates some who can't express a thought without using "adult language" every other word. It can get very contentious at times with some of the "personalities" involved (especially with the LEO/anti-LEO crowds) and there is much discussion behind the scenes between the mods/admins about what should be done. Some feel picked on and others are allowed free reign, the funny thing is the same two involved in one of those recently claimed that was the case with each other, that means at least you are even. I get the feeling that happens much here as well, just because action is or isn't taken doesn't mean that it hasn't been discussed at length behind the scenes.

Yeah, some of the Florida trolls and others (including some "Sooners") get tiresome but most of what I have seen would not be considered "ban-able" offenses on the ones that I am an admin or mod on, annoying yes, ban-able, no....but I am sure much more is discussed than what we know on this side.

IF I make until past Thursday on the board, I WILL come back IF we lose. I may come back if we win, but not to smack or I told ya so, because as a UF fan we have been on the wrong side of championships and other key games so the last thing I want to be is a no class troll saying I told ya so. I think you have a reasonable balance here, just that there is an awful lot of whining about the ones that are here and try to play by the rules.

I think what happens is some get so involved in this whole rivalry thing and associate anything any one fan says to ALL of the rival fans. Heck I have done that, to a degree. I tend to agree with the Sooner Posters when they open a thread and ask for only Sooner opinions and some jackleg from God knows where comes walking in and stating his opinion. If that's not at least disrespectful..I don't know what is. Should it be handled with a banning? I'd have to say 99.9 % of the time..probably not...it would just depend on what the Mods have said...how much rope do you want to give them. A warning might suffice or even a card.

Now...where I start to get a little concerned here is...yeah this post is against Board Rules...but there has been quite a bit of this kind of crap all week, I think an open discussion in one thread is something we can use to turn this in to a positive. Where I get a little concerned is when one of our visitors chimes in with some post saying he thinks polls asking for opinions about banning a troll is something we should be doing here. I think if he doesn't like it...he can go crawl back under the rock he crawled out from.

If a poster made a poll and the poll is asking for a banning from Board Members by the Mods...then they are trying to give the guy more rope. Like I've said in other posts...SoonerFans has always been a place that gives lots of rope. If that weren't the case...guys like Lid (whorn) would have been gone long ago. This place gives more rope than any place I ever visited. I've been to opposition boards and said "Good Luck to your Team" and been banned for even being the opposition....hell...I didn't even say anything bad either. Folks who visit here...have got no bitch. Many of us have supported this place with our own money...others...with their valuable time and others by simply supporting a sponsor or clicking some ads. Phil (THMFIC) has put up with lots over the years. This year won't probably be much different.

I do get tired of a Opposition Poster coming here prior to a game and chiming in and trying to comment on every stinking little word someone might express in these threads. Now...if one of them felt the need to subscribe to SoonerFans (which many opposition fans have) I guarantee they get lots more rope than someone who's just here until the game is over. There's plenty of proof in what I am saying here.

Anyway...

IMO...there are some of you (even in this post) that are lucky to still be here at all.

Florida Fans...I wish your Team luck...but I'm damn tired of hearing how you've been mistreated or that you may not like something here. This is a very unique board which offers many folks a variety of places to have discussions. If you don't like it...write Phil or one of the Mods.

Jebus. I just don't get the fascination people have with other people's boards. I post here because I am a Sooner fan, and like talking about Sooner stuff. Over the course of a decade, I have made friends here, so that's yet another reason to post. I have one or two other boards that I visit because they pertain to other subjects I am interested in. But I have never understood the fascination with reading, and even moreso, REGISTERING AND POSTING ON, boards that are unrelated to, or even the opposite of what I care about.

I tend to agree with the Sooner Posters when they open a thread and ask for only Sooner opinions and some jackleg from God knows where comes walking in and stating his opinion. If that's not at least disrespectful..I don't know what is. Should it be handled with a banning? I'd have to say 99.9 % of the time..probably not...it would just depend on what the Mods have said...how much rope do you want to give them. A warning might suffice or even a card.

For clarification, I think it would be best if you could first define your interpretation of disrespect, then articulate how "stating his opinion" merits your assertion of such an action being "disrespectful". Perhaps, "his" opinion can be relevant to the topic, regardless of "his" affiliation or whether or not you agree with "his" premise.


Now...where I start to get a little concerned here is...yeah this post is against Board Rules...but there has been quite a bit of this kind of crap all week, I think an open discussion in one thread is something we can use to turn this in to a positive. Where I get a little concerned is when one of our visitors chimes in with some post saying he thinks polls asking for opinions about banning a troll is something we should be doing here. I think if he doesn't like it...he can go crawl back under the rock he crawled out from.

Who are you to define "visitor"; what is your interpretation of "visitor" with respect to SoonerFans? Is not everyone a "visitor" to the site in some aspect? Team affiliation is nothing more than self-proclaimed in most instances and has no relevance to any logical discussion among users.

Lastly, your final sentences are indicative of your inability to articulate and think critically, with an open mind.

There is nothing quite like the argument of trying to silence the opposition, especially when the discussions are in written format. If you have a premise worthy of articulation, please do so in a persuasive manner. Ordering your opposition to "pipe down" in substitution for a valid argument does not hold any merit in a logical discussion.

Okay, I'm going to say I'm not out-of-line and I guess that's it. You have your opinion and I have mine.

However, just for clarification, I'll explain why I believe I'm not out-of-line:

1. I'm not lecturing anyone; instead, I'm requesting he, and everyone else, elaborate his position in a more relevant and constructive way.

2. There is nothing wrong with one being critical of another's position. There is nothing in the registration agreement that prohibits me or anyone else from disagreeing with another.

3. When I expressed my position, I did so in a respectful manner and attacked, what I believe to be, his faulty position; I did not attack him, call him names, or do anything that could be interprated as disrespectful.

However, I'll entertain your assertion and ask you convey exactly how I was "out-of-line". Additionally, I'm requesting you articulate how I "lectured" StoopTroup.

Understand, people disagree with people; it's a fact of life. Disagreeing with someone and respectfully expressing my opinion to the contrary of another's is not wrong and does not constitute the declaration of me being "out-of-line".
