Utah is Bama's Boise State.

A perrenial powerhouse, rich in tradition enters a familiar 'high profile' bowl game to face a 'flash-in-the-pan' (barely)major conference champion.

January 1, 2007
Score at the Half
Oklahoma 10
Boise State 21

January 2, 2009
Score at the Half
Alabama 10
Utah 21

We'll see if it happens again...

Interesting comparison. I hope for the SEC's sake history does not repeat itself.

If the UTES win, that will be 3 times (out of 4??) that the non major comes in and whups up on a major.

I was telling my Bama friend the same thing at half. Very similar. We had a better offense and kicking game though.

the 06 Sooners were never #1 and lost their starting QB before the season

and Thompson probably had his worst half since the TCU game to start

not exactly Alabama that was #1 for 5 weeks and whose only loss was to a team playing for the national championship

Poor Sooner fans. Guess you guys don't realize that game planning for Oklahoma was so easy that Urban was done by December 10th, so he spent the rest of the time in Utah helping them figure out how to beat 'Bama.

I think the game flow is very similar. UTAH came out fast and Bama didn't have much. Now Bama's talent is starting to even things out, but they were so far behind, it's hard to completely come back. If they do, there's a good chance, they are like we were and don't have quite enough.

I wouldn't compare the two. OU was a 2 loss team, coming back after an average season, overcoming and winning a Big 12 title. This Bama team was a game away from Miami.

Besides, we lost to BSU by 1, not by a pair of TDs.
