Eleven of the 12 teams in the SEC rank in the top 38 nationally in total defense, including five of the top 15 (Florida is No. 9).

and this is because.....

Ten of the 12 teams in the SEC rank outside the top 38 nationally in total offense. :D

And Haden adds, forget about all those fancy numbers. Forget about predicting a 100-98 football game in Miami. He wants blood, guts and spit to determine the winner, not flash and dash.

Blood, guts, and spit at a track meet?

Let's take this one a little further.

That is because 8 of the 12 SEC offenses average rank is 94th or lower nationally.

He was asked a direct question, he gave a direct answer.

Could the Sooners have scored 60 points in five straight games in the physically demanding Southeastern Conference where even the worst defense is at least statistically better than some of the best in the Big 12?

"It would have been hard because the teams in this league can play defense," UF defensive coordinator Charlie Strong said.

So let's turn it around.

Q: Could the Gators have held their opponents to 21 points or under in 8 out of 9 games in the unbelievably prolific Big 12 where even the worst offenses are at least statistically better than some of the best in the SEC?

A: "It would have been hard because the teams in that league can play offense."

I think it was disrespectful, I think you are disrespectful too. So what.

I love it when Gator fans come on a Sooner board and expect us to go, "Yea, I guess we haven't played any defense this year and we should forfeit the game." So many people are predicting a Florida win, is it a truly that absurd to think your players, your fans, and even your coaches are overconfident?

What happened in the last BCS Title Game where someone was way way overconfident? I think Florida kicked that teams ***, even when nobody said they would be in the same league as their opponent.

Nebraska's defense made my Hokies, who finished the year ranked 107th in total offense, look like an offensive juggernaut....We hung 35 on them.....and statistically Nebraska's defense was better than Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that defense is an afterthought in the Big 12.

Wow an ACC fan talking about weak defense? When was the last time your conference was a threat again? 370 total yards is an offensive juggernaut? 35 points is an offensive juggernaut?

You need a lesson, join a real conference, you would have finished 4th in the Big XII North.

Va Tech averages 296.2 yds per game. Dead Last in the ACC. They average 22.2 points per game. So yeah Nebraska made their offense look way above average.

The same NU that allows exactly 2.4 more yards, and 4.7 points more per game than OU.

So what you're saying is good offensive stats could be due to poor defenses?

Yeah, But clearly NB sucks!

So you are saying that statistically NB defense is the same as OU defense?

Yeah, But clearly NB sucks!

But, a team ranked worse than 100th in offense rolled up 35 points against a Big 12 team, with similar defensive stats, and similar schedule to OU?

Yeah, But clearly NB sucks!

So where does that leave OU defense?

I am not talking trash. I'm just being honest. Nobody truly plays defense in the Big 12. I still think Florida averaging 45 ppg in the SEC is more amazing than Oklahoma averaging 54 ppg in the Big 12.
With that being said, I think Oklahoma has a great team and I look forward to next Thursday night.
My prediction: Florida 44 - OU 32

I'm sitting here looking at that box score, & I see 2 Va. Tech TD's that took a grand total of 38 yards combined. Couple that with a Husker punt that Va. Tech blocked for a safety, & that's 16 points that are VERY easily laid at the feet of the NU Offense & special teams, rather than their defense.

Yep, the SEC has some vaunted defenses. Get real Hokie. Just because Va Tech played well and had a good offensive game against Nebraska, does not transfer "bad" defenses across the Big XII board. If it did, then you should transfer the above SEC defensive failures across the SEC board.

Dude, you bagged on an entire conference based on one game. To make matters worse, you picked a team that we beat by 38 points, and we could have scored a hundred on them. The poor Huskers didn't even win the north division, they were middle run this year in the best conference in the nation (by teams currently ranked.)

To make matters worse you didn't even play an SEC team this year, so you don't have an accurate cross section. You brought maybe the weakest smack to this board of any poster I have ever seen and you don't even have a dog in this fight. So I ask again why are you here?

Nebraska's defense made my Hokies, who finished the year ranked 107th in total offense, look like an offensive juggernaut....We hung 35 on them.....and statistically Nebraska's defense was better than Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that defense is an afterthought in the Big 12.

And how did your Hawkalugies fare against the Fightin' Manginos last year?

Nope, I guess I will have to accomplish that vicariously thru the Gators this year.....

Do you have as many vicarious national titles as Alabama?
