View Full Version : Great college QBs, Stoops knows a thing or 2, or 4 (?), about them, right?

You would think so, right?

1) Josh Heupel
2) Jason White
3) Sam Bradford
4) Landry Jones - could he be #4? - it's impossible for anyone to know without any actual game action (even the coaches), but there seems to be early signs that he possesses some of the key fundamentals (moving the pocket, arm strength, accuracy, etc.)

Bob Stoops with regards to Mr. Jones:

"He’s doing great,” coach Bob Stoops said. "I like everything that he’s doing.
"He’s a quality guy and really making good improvement.”

Kevin Wilson:

"He looks good. He needs time recognizing coverages, not forcing the ball here or there,” said offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson. "But with his physical skill level, his arm, he has a chance to be a quality player. He just needs work. But that’s the beauty of this time.”

Don't forget Nate Hybl.

ENA was pretty decent the one year he got...

The Idiot wasn't too ****ty either...some of the time.

Hard to read much into that.

"...not forcing the ball here or there,”

Brett Favre is still doing that as of yesterday and he's 39 (almost a man) :)

I think Nate Hybl had the least to work with, of all our quarterbacks. Hybl didn't have as many weapons to work with (as we have now) and the O-line had to be completely rebuilt once he took over. The O-line was nothing compared to what we have now or the rebuilt one we will have next year. Hybl wasn't a great QB, but he was decent enough. The problem is that he got completely hammered on way too many pass plays. Also, we didn't have a Kevin Wilson running the offense at the time. The O-coach back then did not make sufficient enough adjustments to buy more throwing time for Hybl. However, he did well enough to win us a Big 12 Championship.

ENA had a good attitude, which we all appreciated. He wasn't a QB, IMO, but he at least bought us a year to allow Sam to develop. It was really great having Malcolm Kelly around to catch all those wild and crazy passes, which ended up saving our bacon on countless occasions.

Yeah. This isn't flame-bait for all those SEC-trolls, but Hybl was basically your typical SEC quarterback, in that he was there to manage the game and not turn the ball over at, which he was pretty good at. Nothing flashy, but a solid player for us. Never counted on him to win a game for us, but always knew he wasn't going to lose one for us.
