Thompson’s main suitors at this time are Cal, Oklahoma and Kansas State, with USC and Arizona making a late bid for his services. When asked about some comments circulating earlier that Syd’s mother was encouraging him to attend Oklahoma, he said, “No, that’s not true at all. My mom would be happy to see me play at any of the school’s I’m interested in.” When asked if Cal’s proximity and his family’s ability to see Syd play more frequently would factor into his decision, he said, “Definitely. In the end, though, I’m going to choose the place that’s best for me.” Thompson greatly enjoyed his official visit to Cal and was hosted by former Grant Union teammate Worrell Williams who he’d like to be reunited with at Cal.
