View Full Version : Players request curfew

soonerinabilene

Just heard on ESPN Radio that the OU players have told the coaches that they want a curfew to be enforced starting the first night they are in Miami. According to the news report, it has been the coaches philosophy the last few years to allow the players to enjoy the first few nights out on the town when they arrive for the bowl game. The PLAYERS told the coaches they dont want that option this year, because they felt like that was one of the reasons they have played so poorly in our last few bowl games. I think OUr guys have their heads on right this year.

Yep. There's nuttin' but trouble waiting for them in Miami if they are cut loose. Luckily for us, I believe Meyer thinks the same. The team used to find trouble during the later Spurrier and Zook bowl trips, but Meyer don't play dat.

This scares me more than Bradford, or your tradition, or that ginormous mutant guy on your OL. Your guys have the right attitude... so far. Who knows what will happen to some of those farm boys when they see South Beach.

Farm Boys? THE University of Oklahoma is NOT the Aggie school of Oklahoma but Florida is one of the Aggie schools in Florida and you have the nerve to call our players Farm Boys? We have ranches in Oklahoma not farms -- ditto Texas. Maybe you should read up on the state before commenting about Oklahoma athletes. OU is the professional college of Oklahoma just like Florida State is in Florida. We don't have agriculture or Vets!

You take everything very literally, don't you? ;)

And there's plenty more in Oklahoma than farms. As SoonerMom points out, there are probably many more ranches than farms, a number of them with ginormous numbers of acres and cattle...we're talkin' old cattle money. Lots of old oil money too from Bartlesville, OKC, Ponca City, Tulsa. Plenty of wealth in OK, but not the kind built on Colombian drug money.

My mom yesterday: "I'm kind of concerned that the players are asking for a curfew now. Does that mean the coaches let them stay out late and party in all the previous bowls that the players had to ask for a curfew now?"

Mom is also the type to point out when a player does something dirty that it "wasn't very nice of him."

Uhm.

This sounds really silly. Like the obligatory "players decide to forego use of the letter "n" during the summer in order to make more time available each day for voluntary workouts, er, volutary workouts."

Hope I'm not raining on anyone's parade with my cynicism :)

At the 87 Orange Bowl, my friends and I stayed at a hotel next to the Fontainebleu, where the Sooners have traditionally stayed every time they play in Miami. Pretty much every afternoon we'd head over to the lobby bar and mix and mingle with the team. Don't know about evenings, though. It was fun meeting the players - Keith Jackson had the biggest hands I've seen on a human being - but the game sure sucked.

True, we tend to recruit nation-wide, where oSu tends to stay more local. I have met (at one time or another / or at least seen the way they act in the Bud) on campus most of our team. Trust me. There is nothing "farm" about 95% of our players. People can think we are redneck, but most of our players act "city" or at least rural enough to not be confused with being raised on a farm. We are no more redneck than the Gators. I have spent "alot" of time in Florida. They have as many "rednecks" as we do. They just have more people to counter it.

You may be right. I lived in Panama City for 10 years, and I've seen some of Florida's reddest necks, especially since we were their favorite beach town. I'm talking serious yokels, here... some of these people came from the deep woods and lived in little pockets of people, where more than a few "cousins" had questionable geneologies.

The only experience I have with OSU is a couple I used to know, that graduated from there. The guy turned out to be a pedoperv, and he had to leave town in the middle of the night, before he got arrested for taking a bunch of expensive prizes from a radio station we worked at. The girl was nuttier than a fruitcake, and they had pumped out 4 kids that were well on their way to being messed up, too.

They are not all like that. But you get the general idea of what Stillwater has to offer.

It is a ****hole of a town that is for sure.

I don't mind Oklahoma State, the university or their athletic programs. I have a cousin of mine that starts on the Oline for them. When I was in high school I attended plenty of wrestling duals there and wrestling camps at OSU.

However, the town of Stillwater...we just call it Stoolwater now. (Toilet Stool)
