Pfff. Judging from the helpful responses I got in my thread about bluetooth headsets, this should turn out great.

;)

Um, if you want to spend a LOT... http://www.paradigm.com/

Yeah, to actually buy them you have to find a dealer.

cnet says about $799 for the Cinema 110 set.

OK, sorry.

I love my B&W 602s that I use for my fronts.

I use Mirage (forget the model numbers) for the center and surrounds, and a pair of Altec Lansings that I bought in college for the side fills.

I have an NHT! 10" subwoofer where I don't know the model number-and I think they went out of business several years back anyhow.

How much are you looking to spend? Do you consider yourself an audiophile at all? Speakers are one of those deals where the diminishing returns slope is rather steep, but for those that it makes a difference it makes a BIG difference.

that's kinda why i'm wondering about the sweet spot.

i'm thinking i'd rather just buy a set

i don't need something quite audiophile quality, but i don't want something crappy :)

I like the sound I get out of the Mirage speakers. They may fit your description. Best Buys typically have a few different 5.1 sets for them in their Magnolia rooms.

How about these: PSB (http://www.psbspeakers.com/)

HomeTheaterReview - Imagine B Speaker (http://www.psbspeakers.com/reviews/HomeTheaterReview-Imagine-B-Speaker)

I don't have the series reviewed above, but I am quite pleased with my speakers from PSB.

One is black, and one is white.

Plus, one is being sold at MSRP by Amazon, while the other is being sold as a clearance item by another vendor.

The closest dealer is:

Yeah, a dealer in Edmond may not be the closest dealer for Froze. Yukon Cornelius might be a better bet. ;)

Froze ain't buying new speakers. Froze is trying to figure out the cheapest way to get the speakers he has to Tuscaloosa.

Dave is buying new speakers. :D

That's what I get for posting at 2 am.

That Yukon Cornelius joke was GOLD, though. Totally wasted.

I really would like to hear some Martin Logan (http://www.us.martinlogan.com/applications/esl_series.html) electrostatic speakers. I've never known anyone who's had them, but they're supposed to be wonderful speakers.

If I ever hit the lottery....

They do sound wonderful, in a VERY TIGHT listening area. If you're a few feet up, down, left or right, the stereo image changes as does the timbre of the sound. You'll also want a sub, as they're not so much on bass.

Look into avalon speakers. I've got the Symbol as fronts (http://www.avalonacoustics.com/) with a Vandersteen center, Vandersteen subs and surrounds (I'm actually using the 2CE's as side-surrounds that used to be the fronts and the 1Bs as rear surround channels... it just worked out that way).

I used to do a lot of work for the dearly departed K-Labs in Tulsa.

If you don't like avalon... well, you're weird, but Vandersteens are also very open and natural sounding, as are Thiel speakers.

There's a guy in the OKC area... Youngblood, is his name (if I remember). He doesn't do much in the way of theater, but for 2 channel, he's got the goods. The Phonograph in Tulsa is also a great resource. Ask for Mark and tell him I sent you. :)

I just went the simple way and got one of the Bose Lifestyle systems. I likes it.

Paradigm is pretty much one of the best bang for the buck speaker companies in existence.

My speakers are M&K, which is no longer in existence.
