I posted this on the OUINSIDER boards about a week back and it paints a picture of each conference from this year compared to 2007.
I looked at some offensive and defensive numbers for the SEC in 2007 and compared them to the 2008 numbers and found some things most of us here already knew.
In 2007 5 teams averaged over 400 yards per game in the SEC
In 2008 only 2 teams.
In 2007 only 2 teams held offenses below 300 ypg and Georgia is close by allowing 323 ypg.
In 2008 5 teams held offenses below 300 yards per game.
So last year Georgia had only the 3rd best defense in the SEC allowing 323 yards per. This year the 11th best defense only allows 327 yards per game. The 11th best!
This year the SEC has 6 teams that average 316 yards or worse(some much worse) on offense.
In 2007 only 1 team averaged worse than 316 yards on offense.
Are SEC fans serioulsy trying to tell us every single teams defense just got all world in 1 years time?
Lets compare those to BIG12 numbers shall we......
Last year 7 BIG12 teams averaged 448 ypg or higher
This year only 6 BIG12 teams average 448 ypg or higher
Last year 7 teams gave up less than 400 ypg
This year 7 teams give up less than 400 ypg
The only thing that really changed from last year is we went from 448 ypg to 562 ypg
The BIG12 is almost a mirror of last year, the national rankings just changed but the ypg allowed and ypg gained are just about the same. The defenses didn't actually get any worse but our offense hit another statosphere.
The SEC on the other hand has completely changed since last year. The ypg gained has went down drastically so in turn the ypg allowed has followed.
