But if I had to pick it would be 2000, just because it was unexpected. After the blake and smellyburbon years

Heh.

I'll say 2000 because it was "pure". Undefeated and accomplished under the BCS 2-team playoff system.

'74 next. Also undefeated, but no bowl or AP ranking due to probation (UPI only). That was a bullet proof team on offense, defense and special teams.

85 was cool. Holieway took over for an injured Troy Aikman in his freshman year and led the Sooners to a 11-1-0 record. In 1986 Orange Bowl defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions for the national championship. Holieway remains the only true freshman quarterback to lead his team to the national title.

I would say 1996....I liked the team just a little bit more than the 2006 team.

Ohhhhhhh....Y'all were talking about y'alls National Championships.....

Other way around. We were ranked in the AP poll, but not the Coaches (UPI). That was largely due to the huge amount of sway Darrell Royal held with most of the voting coaches. He used his influence to lobby for a rule change that prohibitied schools on major probation (which we were, due to the Kerry Jackson fiasco) from being ranked. While there's some truth there, it was just as much a shot at Switzer (you know, the young, brash up-and-comer who ended up going 3-0-1 against you) as anything else.

I would have to say 2000 because it proved we were "really back" after those awful years. Also because it was won by a bunch of kids that had suffered under the Three Stooges and all had immense talent and desire.

Had it not been for Bob Stoops those kids may have never known the joy of winning and the NC was just the icing on the cake.

I'd say 2000. (Well I was to young to fully appreciate 85) Black October and all of that. What A Magical season! And one of the most unexpected in NCAA history.
